So I took my chopper bike out for a spin to our local HEB to grab some beer for me, and margarita mix for my chica. Anyhoo, the trip wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Austin can be a little hilly but my neighborhood is okay. The trip was maybe 2 miles and I was sweating by the time I got back. It was fun, but I think I'm a little out of shape. In anycase, I was wondering how you guys on them long low burittos fare? How far do you guys on average ride? I plan to put quite a few miles on this thing myself. Peace out.

i've only got 4 mi. on my el bandito. it rides very nice. my longest trip was 2 mi. i have no problems riding it. don't know how it will be on a longer ride.lol

this is my neighborhood cruiser. i have to say, sometimes it getscalled a burrito and sometimes not. you'll have to make your own call.

one of my brothers lives about 2 miles away from me and i'll ride it there no problem. the most just looping around the 'hood non stop was about 5 miles, and there have been a few weekends where i was on and off it fooling around all day. two things seem to matter the more you ride them, a good seat and gears.

since you can't stand up on the pedals and relieve your butt, the better the seat the longer you can ride. even the seat height and angle come into play. plus really you're sitting so low once you come to a stop or traffic light, you can just stand up for a second.

and gears for the occassional hill (depending on what's around you). i'm wanting a three speed coaster hub for this bike and i think then it will be perfect.

yep your right, some gears do help. i will prob go with a 3 speed for my free spirit when i get back to it. i keep going thru alot of changes with it. i want it to be right.

these are my daily riders.

the girl and i usually go out for 1 to 2 hours at a time. (no idea of distance)

its all about design and comfort.

My bike is pretty comfortable. What I really need is a good seat. I just have an old Mt bike seat on mine with a gel pad that does absolutely little in the way of comfort.

I'd love to get a 3spd coaster hub, but so far the single speed coaster (not in pic) is not to bad. I was thinking of bending the post back a bit, but don't really know.

just thought i would put this in. El Bandito. it has a different fork on it now. makes for a better ride. the seat is going to get re covered and i have a couple of other thing to finish on it.

its amazing how many people feel the need to practically give these away. :)
usually a $1 will score ya one from a garage sale. (mine were all purchased from garage sales)
old roller skates/clamp on roller skates are also a good source for cheap old wheels.

check out places like good will, salvation army etc. with all the modern cheap sk8's, these things hardly ever sell, and sit on the shelves for years.

icy, thanks, that bike is insane. will have a hard time giving it away when that time comes.

bring.dom, just start building one, they are so fun to ride, and the looks ya get, you'll be laughing so hard, well ya better bring extra pants.lol

I really like the riding position on a burrito, real relaxed and comfortable. I can't stop riding the thing. Not many hills around here but its geared for cruising so i imagine it could make it up most moderate hills. The seat thats on there is a different story. I'd say I could probably ride as long as I could stand to be on that seat.

Philphine--great lines on your burrito. I'd love to see any pics of how you put it together.

thanks. i have to admit i didn't come up with it. i saw the design in the atomic zombie gallery and it looked doable for me.

http://www.atomiczombie.com/gallery/sam ... hopper.htm

two extra pieces of tubing was all i needed for the frame it's self. the rest is rearranging the donor bike. i used a 20" front wheel so i wouldn't have to rake it out as much, some more chain and some bigger handlebars depending on what comes on your bike and/or what you want. depending on what you have already and/or what you want on it the cost doesn't add up much beyond what you get the donor bike for.

i don't have any build pics since i only recently got a computer and camera, but i'm trying to build more like this for family members. in the "various projects" build thread i started there's a pic of the longer one i made my brother. the next frame i get (and don't mess up. i got the last one crooked) i'll try to take pics along the way.

I didnt think Burrito's would ride as good as they do, gearing would be good for my neck of the woods. I agree with Outlaw the child seat would be insane. 8)
