well, it's a little too late now but here's how I would have done that bike.
a chrome springer frontend, flat pan seat, and short drag bars welded right to the springer....no gooseneck.
something like this:

That does look good. I thought about that seat, still may do a flat pan seat. The reason I built the front end instead of using a chrome springer was because I had the old seat spring that needed to be used and some other odds and ends laying around. I'm not done with the bars, they're going to be cut down and I'll add some end bars facing down, like an old Indian board track racer.

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

yeah i'm in the middle of gathering parts to build a bike similar to the red one i posted. I just love the way the frontend is with the little stubby drag bars. if you notice, that red bike has a 20" back rim with a big 2 speed hub.
I bet it's a b**ch to ride, but it sure looks cool....lol

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

That springer is BITCHIN'!
Great project, way to think out of the box

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

As for color, I think gray would be nice. I have a gray bike with red rims and I really like the way the colors go together.

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

I'll bet mine won't ride that good either! It's going to be tricky with a 20"r to get the look and make it ridable. I like the look of the, I'm guessing, a 24" fornt wheel on the red bike. Today I'm going to try a completely different paint job. I'll post some pics. I really don't want this to end up flat black, but with my body work "skills" it may have to!

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

I'm diggin this build and that red one is pretty nice looking also.. I was putting some thought to builing one of these bike also and came across this one that really cought my attention but don't know who built it.. Might someone here have a clue.??
Sweet looking Bike.!!!

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

Beautiful! I started to wet sand the primer and found that the primer wasn't hardening. It was the consistency of play dough, after two days. So.... I've had to strip it off and now I'm having to apply another light coat of body filler to fix some of the low spots I created while removing the primer. Last time I go this far!

It was Rustoleum, spray can. It worked fine for the front end. I'm not sure what happened.

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

Sometime these spray cans paints work under UV light (sunlight) to cure. SOMETIMES.!!! not ALL the times.. If you want to use spray can primer, next time go to your local body shop supply shop (store) and pick up some "SEM High Build Primer" it work awsome. IT DRIES.!!! It fills low pots really good and sands really easy.. You pay a little more but worth the $$$ and save a lot of time.. Thats my backrgound in line of work... If you have any questions regarding bodywork and paint, let me know. I have 25yrs in the business as a paint tech and color matcher. By the way, I'm diggin your project.. I need to build one of these bad boys after I'm done with "PURSUIT"..

Thanks for the advice and offer. I'm sure I'll be asking you for some help, as you can tell I'm no pro. I'll try to find some SEM. Unfortunately I live in a place that has very little anything! I've been looking at "Pursuit" Very Cool!

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

Thanks for taking a peek at the Pile of metal I've been working on.. I'll be posting new pics of 'PURSUIT" updates. I'm there if you need the help anytime..

Re: My first attempt- Touch of Trash!

So, I found this on the side of the road and used it to build my rear fender.

Here it is, took alot of stress cuts.

It'll be cut down, it isn't perfectly round, so I'll bob it.

Re: Touch of Trash!

I've made some more progress. The bars have been cut down and end bars added, there's also a hand operated kickstand.

Here's a short video of the kickstand in action:

Re: Touch of Trash!

Have not been a member long but I think that is the first time I have seen that idea for a kick stand. Or is it hand stand???

Re: Touch of Trash!

This bike is so cool. Everything, the springer is different, homemade and not what you see every day. The neck angle is extreme but looks good. The fill in "tank" works good.

The paint, I think you nailed it, I was worried it was going to be another flat black rat. No offence anyone   .What makes the paint good, IMO is that you didn't sand it off a little bit here and there, all over. There are areas that are solid color, and transitions and areas that are sketchy. It's so hard to sand through layers, to do a fauxtina, without making it look overcooked.

The kickstand, again an original, or at least I haven't seen one before. Very ratty. I've been thinking of doing that with a seat, just the seat.

Wicked cool build.

Re: Touch of Trash!

That would be cool for a seat. Jack it up to ride then down when parked. Of you could hook it into the kink stand then it would be over the edge.

Re: Touch of Trash!

Har!! Handstand   that's awesome! And putting the seat on the same lever would indeed be unhinged! Can you imagine? You're tooling along, come to a stop, stand up, pull the lever and BOOM! Slammed!!

I was showing my wife and she said "Cool but, where's the chain?" I hadn't even noticed  no drive chain!

Re: Touch of Trash!

Thanks all! I'm not done yet, I've still got to work out a couple of things, I'm going to add a card holder for the rear wheel, put a self kick-out on the "handstand" (Funny, I started to call it that, but thought it was cheesy  ).Not sure if I'm going to put the rear fender on it,, kinda' like it fenderless. Not much I can do with the seatpost, it's wedged in there, so I can't incorporate it into the handstand, mabey next bike. I plan to have just the top of the seat covered. I bought a Brooks seat, but it doesn't really fit the build. Now I've got to blow it apart to paint it. I've decided on a seafoam green, with a tan scallop and hammered black accents, cranks etc.... Ordered chain and misc today. I almost gave up on this a couple of times, whew what alot of work! Sure is fun though!
