Here is the start of my build off. The Tour De Brew Bike. This is a 50's Huffy from Ohio. Want to turn it into a beer themed klunker. There is a local beer cruise set up every year to prep for RAGBRAI. http://www.bikeiowa.com/asp/calendar/RidePopUp.asp?m=&e=4397 They have kegs along the 37mile ride. Hope I don't crash. Plan is to build some wheels this weekend with Strumey Archer hubs laced to 26inch Alex rims. The rest of the bike should be used and salvaged parts. I really like to build wheels, and really dislike old worn out ones. :?

I've got that same frame. Wish my headbadge still had color. Also wish mine had the chainguard that's really cool.

Is Amana that little German town that was planned out in advance so everything is brick, nice and neat? Don't recall the brewery but remember buying wine there.

Today I was able to lace and true the rear wheel. As for the front wheel the spokes come into the shop on Wed. Went to buy some paint supplies at the hardware store. Painted the "H" on the head badge green. Also got some sanding done on the chaingaurd. Thinking about getting the bike up and running before painting the frame. Its gona be hard to find the fork I want and a seatpost that will work.

They are simple to make. Weld a washer on the top of a seat post ....and then cut the bottom at an angle...then trot down to the local hardware and buy a long bolt that will fit the angle tightening thing from a stem. Then to be cool weld a short piece of 3/4'' pipe at an angle to the seat post close to the top. You get your laid back seatpost and your one that works without a clamp.

Working long hours this weekend, not fun. Was able to build the front wheel on last Thursday. The wheels are super beefy and also weight about 8lbs each. Rear hub is 3spd coaster Sturmey Archer. Front is Sturmey Archer 70mm drum brake. Here is the bike so far

Next step set up the fork looking to use a newer style mountain fork. Also need to drill some holes in the fender so it mounts to the frame near the rear drops.

Re: Tour De Brew (May 13)

Here are some pics I took the other day working on the seat clamp for the bike. Things would be better if I had some power tools. Had to file two of these down by hand. :x
