I was in a bike shop several weeks ago and noticed a Trek District 8 56cm retro style bike with modern components hanging from the ceiling. A pretty basic model in Copper Metalic paint. At the time I heard it talking to me but I knew I had too many already. So I passed and left it hanging. When we got home the image kept nagging at me, and I did some research on it. As we were doing a road trip this past week, I decided to stop and look at it again, kick the tires, see how it fit and ended up test riding it. Well it has a new home and found itself at home with the rest of the heard. My birthday present to myself.

I like the idea of a lightweight city bike with disc brakes...

Luke.
Me to. YOU could surely make one...it would be cool.

Me? Build lightweight?

Actually, you have me thinking now... Would have to start with a factory frame though... :39:

Added some copper bottle cages and a cheap Bell 200 computer. It has quite a few features for the price. A few detail photos.

Did a few more tweaks to the copper tone bike. Added a copper tone bell, pedals and one of my bikes provided a donor saddle.

Sharp looking bike. I have also been thinking about this model only I haven't been able to see one in person. How is it holding up for you?
Seems to be a solid bike. Not the best components but they will do for me. I doubt that I will wear them out. It is light and nimble, a comfortable ride. the geometry suits me. This District 8 is a 2015 model, I just stumbled on to it. Might be hard to find another although the frames have carried over to 2016 with a different spec.

The Brooks saddle adds a nice touch. Love the copper tone color.

Thanks. I rather hated to steal it from my Dahon Smoothhound but it looks better where it is now. the two bikes just made a trade,

Wow! I am just seeing this Ed. That's a looker! Good for you on getting it. Next some matching grips like the saddle?
Its just awesome for a new bike.
