I'm very new to my bicycle addiction, so I'm sure that I'll have a lot of
questions. I just finished my first project. My son and I want to build
a chopper trike next.

I see a lot of trikes with a solid rear axle driving both rear tires. I've also
seen some that only have one rear tire driven, and I've seen one that had
a differential set up in the back.

Here's my question. How important is it for the rear tires to be able to spin
seperately? A solid axle would be easiest, but I would I have problems making
tight corners?

Thanks in advance.

yes having a solid axle would make the bike a bear to turn in tight areas and keep pedling. i think the easiest setup is a schwinn style that uses a rear coaster wheel for the drive wheel and a front for the other side

solid axles DON'T work for trikes, you cant turn with a solid axle, try looking on CL's for an old trike for starters, they do show up there fairly cheap, good luck

What appears to be a solid axle is in many cases one wheel mounted solid and the other on bearings on the same shaft.

Thanks - I was kind of thinking along those lines.
I'm also trying to figure out how to add rear brakes.

my trike has solid axle with one drive wheel. my build thread you can see the rear drum brake set up. 8)
