Trying to re-assemble vintage Shimano shifter - PLEASE HELP!

So, I'm about done with this vintage girl and a dear friend may be interested in her. I had to adjust the shifter cable and clean and rebuild the shifter. Now I can't get it back together again. The ball bearing that fell out won't sit in the hole. It won't click into place. I'm at my wit's end. Can anyone post some pictures and a how-to for re-assembling these buggers? THANKS!

The ball bearing gos between the mounting plate and handle. You need to take the handle off and put the ball on one of the 3 holes in the mounting plate, then line up the hole under the spring plate on the handle with the bearing and put the handle in place.
