well this is just a random rant but i was expecting it sooner or later
this amazingly awesome mega blowout happened when i had my bike parked in ym shed
i think between the severely cracked and dry rotted tire and the heat expanding it it just said enuffs z nuff
i was hoping i could save the tire but its not happening
anyone else have blowouts like this before?
i would kinda like to see them if you want to share i feel like this one takes the cake as the worse ive ever seen on a bicycle lol

pretty awesome huh?
lol wish i could a heard it i bet it sounded sweet
im laughing but crying at the same time these typhoon cord tires are hard to find and not cheap to replace

Never happened to me, but I'd seen similar blowouts on customers' bikes back in my shop days. That is pretty bad, but understandable, given the age of the rubber....:android:

I actually clicked on this thread b/c I thought you had a bunch of typhoon cords for sale, cheap....:21: Should've known....

A coworker's tire did that inside our office one day. There was a very loud explosion followed by flying green slime. It was pretty powerful as it warped his back wheel like a Pringle chip. I asked him what his tire pressure was and he responded with 70psi. His tires can take 60psi but most of was probably due to filling up his tires in the cool garage and then parking inside the office.

I'm not Gary (B607); I'm the other guy: Rob! I doubt if anyone else would make that same mistake.....

When I was a kid (late 50's) I was riding my bike up by the highway. I spot one of the older kids riding my way. He was a greaser named Joe Such, and I figured he was bearing down on me to harass me. He was riding a stripped down bike with a springer. About the time he pulled up even with me, his front tire blew. Violently. It flipped him right off the bike and he and the bike went down hard. That was my cue and I turned tail and rode home. I laughed all the way home. Never had a blowout happen to me. Gary

I had one a few years back that the entire bead let go of the tire for a good 6 inches while riding and the tube went off like a shotgun. Old gum wall that the sides were crumbling but the tread looked brand new.

Had a circa '67 Schwinn Superior ww blow in '96, in my then apt., in the middle of the night! Took several days to figure out what the noise was!!! I went to take a ride, and saw the flaps of disintegrated tire. I'm pretty leery of dry cracked tires, especially after this happened to my Jeep about 4 years ago- 10pm!

Go to any road bike rally (spandex crowd) and you will hear the occasional pop of a tire aired to 100-120 PSI. Sounds like a gun shot. I still duck!
