The other day I saw an ad for a Schwinn tandem in a town about 25 minutes away. It said it was old and needed work and they wanted $75 or best offer. Knowing that nobody in that little middle of nowhere town would buy that bike I just waited around thinking I'd give it a week and then call and offer them $50.

I looked back at the ad today and evidently someone told them they had something a little more special.

deals rarely wait. you gotta jump as soon as you see one you want.

too bad you missed this one, but then again, there's a lot of work sitting there. :D :D

thanks for posting, I'd never have known that Schwinn ever made this bike!

Ouch! You probably could have gotten it for $50 or 60.

If nobody bought it for $75, nobody is going to buy it for $295.

For some reason a lot of people on CL live in a world where the basic tenets of supply and demand are reversed.

Never wait to make an offer, show up in person right away and make your offer.

I'd have been all over that for $75 like a fat kid at a free buffet. They were only made one year and there are not many left. I'd still be tempted at $250 just due to the rarity and you'll probably never see another one for under $300.

The reason nobody bought it for $75 was because the original ad with that price had no picture and only described it as a rusty Schwinn, I thought it was a Twinn, had I known it was a Stingray I would've jumped, but I need another tandem like I need a hole in the head, and having a valuable bike around here where I can't sell anything is just money not moving and thinking of shipping a tandem! haha, no. :|

Ah, bummer.

I probably would've bought it if I had gone out there to see it, but I wouldn't have gotten real excited, like I said, hard to sell around here and not in this hobby for the money.

I collect old Schwinns so that would be the prize of my collection but I already have 2 tandems and 14 other bikes all piled in a 10'x10' shed and I'm normally broke too so....yeah.

Well wait a while then go out to make an offer. I know that's the opposite of what I said earlier, but this time the price is high enough I don't think you have to worry too much about somebody getting it first, or the seller turning around and raising the price even higher.

One in good condition is certainly worth a lot, but mostly because it's in original condition. This one will never simultaneously be in original condition and good condition again.

strangely enough the person that told them it was worth 300 apparently didn't actually offer to PAY 300...

Exactly what I was wondering about. Someone not willing to make the trip out to the middle of nowhere for a deal, but willing to mess it up for anyone else.

Just buy this other NC CL ad that was posted locally here in Savannah.
You could move to the beach and make enough to buy the Mini Twinn.

Don't want the Mini Twinn, and God isn't exactly calling me to leave the church and buy a bike shop, especially one that would net me less money to live on in a more expensive place to live. haha

That is to funny, usually its trashed girls bikes that people try to sell locally for 300 bucks

Thats still a pretty good price for the bike, but to bad about missing out on the first price. Sure, needs some work, but its a rare bike.
