I’d seen one like that built for mountain bike Singlespeed World Championships. I think it was about being eligible while keeping sponsorship commitments.

Why are the rows of teeth offset? Does this work with a rear derailleur as a tensioner and yeild 5 equal gears? Could this run with std. 2x or 3x front chainrings to equal a 3 speed? Interesting.

The first one is 6 speed and the second one is five speed.

The one I'd seen was probably loose cogs spaces onto a free hub, not a freewheel.
