Idler gear are a pain, which I was worried would slow you down. That is one good piece of news anyway.

I had one already but now I have two, I think I have a skiptooth chain somewhere in my stash of parts so I only need to purchase one. Not sure on the length yet

This is a sketch I drew of what I’m trying to build (not my bike just a picture off internet)

KP DAY 3
Went to the bike junk yard today and found this cool promax mtn bike stem .The cruiser bars are from my stash . I also picked up this JD alum deck JA62 mower for $20 . It runs but leaking fuel . So I went ahead and ordered spokes and a
new carb .

Guess I’m in. I have an old JC Higgins frame which rolls and a old Hawthorne which rides.

Not sure yet which one gets the March attention.

I picked up this old “Model T” style steering wheel towards the end of last summer. I’ve been itching to try fitting it to a bicycle. The center hole is a 7/8” I.D. so I figured a long quill stem would work with it.

I drilled and tapped a 5/16” - 24NF hole in the center hub. I planned on using a set screw to anchor the wheel to the stem. Couldn’t find one so temporarily settled for a cap screw with a locking nut. Photos to follow.

Very cool, was on a ride once with a good friend (Guitarcarl) who had a similar setup until it took a turn towards a cement wall :) always keep both hands on the wheel

After mocking up the wheel and stem I put it on the Hawthorne since it was handy. The Higgins is in storage at present.

Almost afraid now to test ride it...

That would definitely feel ‘weird’ steering like that, good luck! Wear a helmet!

There was a manufactured version back in the day.

Yeah mine came unbolted and when I hit the viaduct wall next to me it broke a weld too so it was done for the day. Fixed again and still one of my favorite rides. Updated with a three on the tree...

Some of the old chainsaws had skiptooth chains also , but a little on the edgy side !

Pretty neat but that NITTO Tallux is a spendy stem to sacrifice!
Think it was just short of $20 and has some rise length to it. May eventually cut the bar clamp off.
