Done, calling her the One-Day-Wonder as she was done in a
day, bars, banana seat with sissy bar, front fender greased
the bearings and she's done. Nice to ride even without the
chain oiled, may add front brakes, see how I feel before the
deadline. Got the motor scooter done as well ready for road
worthy inspection and rego, this week.

85°F this afternoon so quit work about 4 pm and got the Monark out to play.
Had to break out the right angle grinder and do some trimming on the old gooseneck I'm using for a seat post. The mattress seat I bought for this bike wouldn't work with this post so I pulled the seat off the Crimson Haybailer and will put the mattress seat on it.
I remembered I had bought a red and chrome chain over the winter for this bike, and believe it or not I was able to lay my hand right on it today! So I swapped it for the one I put on it last summer. Also swapped out the pedals too.
Then I got into an inventive mood and thought I would try making a thumb lever for the shifter. Seems to work okay.

Shortened the fork today, it hurts to cut into prewar stuff but if you wanna make an omelet you gotta break some eggs. Still on track to be test riding it tomorrow. Sprocket is getting nice and rusty.

It’s sunny today after yesterday’s blizzard. Some progress on Frankengravel. Now I’m going out to see if I can find some bare melted pavement to ride Holey Spokes.

I won't finish 100% because the adaptor that goes from the theaded to unthreaded goose neck has some play in it. I don't want to tape the bars until I find a nice old upright and extended mountain bike stem. I'll be able to ride it but it won't be all the way finished. My SPD pedals also need some new parts

and I have not ordered them. Here is the stem I'll have to eventually replace. I like the look, but it isn't stable. Also the green fenders in my previous post are a bust. They look good but I don't feel comfortable using them as the narrow spacing would allow rocks, mud or sticks to get jamed in there and cause a crash. The fenders are from 27 inch wheels so I figured the bigger diameter would give me enough room with the 700c wheels but the tires are a little too big.

I'm going out with Holey Spokes to look for some ice free pavement. Spring is here.

I don't trust those threaded to threadless adapters or adjustable stems either. Just one more thing to wiggle loose on the ride

Screw it. I'm tired of waiting around for weather. The seatpost isn't going to get paint. Nobody is going to notice. Had a pile of parts, posted above after handyandy inspired me. Threw everything all together and wound up with this

Might be more in the future, details and such, but for now, it's a seat!

Holey Spokes and I took a 15 mile ride today. This is a perfect bike for wet freezing salty slop. Only problem I had was falling once when I didn’t get out of my clipless pedals on time and the brake cables occasionally freezing, but a little extra force on the levers is all it took for them to work.

I rode the Elgin today, rides really nice.

Waffled on using the old clearance light for a taillight. Kinda too big. Then I misplaced it again! Dug around and found an old fender and the reflector was hanging on by a thread - Score! Just have to finalize mounting of chain guard. So temped to look for a larger chainring, but bike is comfortable now and I'm not sure how good it would be on even medium hills if it was taller geared.

So unsure about paint. Like the original root beer brown metallic. It's probably too nice tho. Don't know if I should look for a matching spray bomb or leave the chain guard and fork to clash as is. Difficult to get stuff painted with weather so cold - some ice and snow yet.
Need rustfication advice.

I bet there's a car touch up spray bomb at a car parts store that would get you close enough. Then a little faux-tina to blend everything together if needed.

I think the paint is great, but the first giveaway that it's a modern frame is the headbadge and the quick release on the seatpost clamp.

I got tired of the hard shell cooler coming loose so I welded on some tabs. If

this doesn’t work I’ll put some tabs on the side to make a basket style holder. It still needs some kind of tie down strap.

Love that tail light. In the past I matched a chain guard color to a bike by buying a bunch of similar colors and white. I started with white. Then I used an under coat either lighter or darker than the original, depending what was available. Then a light coat of the closest color, letting some of the under color blend through. It takes time as each coat has to cure so it won’t lift. Had to keep blending spray bombs 3 times but in the end you couldn’t, tell. It helped that the top of the guard was black, thus keeping the frame and chain guard colors apart. Not fast enough for this month though.

I had to look hard to find them. I just ordered a package of two stretchy Velcro 27 inch tie down straps. The cooler is 24 inches around the narrow part. I tried one temporary strap and the ends of the cooler shifted. It will take two. The straps will take awhile to get here but the bike is done enough to use daily.

I put the egg beatets on.

I also slobbered some paint on the chain stays where I flattened them out making them wider so the 38 mm tires would fit.
