A friend of my wife gave me this today. Never seen one before. It is aluminum with part of the rear triangle bolted on. Have not found any numbers yet. Any one know what it might be?

Looks like a 70s frame that's supposed to have shocks where the two struts are bolted in. I don't recall who made them, but I think there were Yamaha badged versions among others. -Adam

Yeah it has shocks  I know it's a BMX bike but can't remember what it's called :|

it would be super sweet restored and they fetch a premium... I bet the parts are astronomical tho... if you can find them..

I had an A&A when I was a kid, very similar to the Yamaha and Kawasaki. I thought I might try and find another till I realized I'd have to take out a 2nd on the house to get one....

My brother had a yellow yamaha when we were young. That thing was heavy as hell but very cool.

I would say that the minimum you should do would be to put a triple tree on there (preferably shocks) and replace those bars on the rear with shocks that fit it.

If I stumbled upon one of those, I think I'd fab up a new, longer rear swingarm, put a triple=tree fork on there, and roll it on 24" Tuffs. Make a total cafe/street tracker bike out of it. Heck, it'd all be reversible if you wanted to restore it later.

if your gonna fashion a new longer rear swing arm, i say go crazy. 2 or 3 feet crazy!
a shout out to all those old harley hill climbers.

yeah thats the ticket.

I like the hill climbing, swing arm extension idea.
But also wondering if I should sell it to finance next build?
Still pondering.

In that condition you're not going to get a lot for it, they're pretty common. At least the frames are anyway, finding the correct parts to restore it would cost way more than it would bring on ebay. Suspension bikes are kind of a red headed stepchild in the bmx world, Considered more of a novelty than a serious race bike, there are a few who collect them but for the most part they don't bring the interest or money that some of the rigid frames do. Of course there are exceptions to every rule and some rare boingers do bring serious money. Kawi is just not one of them.

Funny thing is thought, Bill Bastian (the builder of the early Kawis) used left over Kawasaki tubing to build some rigid frames under the brand name "AAA" and those (basically a rigid looptail Kawi ) bring big big bucks. Even though Kawi came first, AAA is credited with building the first aluminum bmx race bikes.
Go figure.
