I have a pre-war Goericke roadster with a 3 speed derailer (Fichtel & Sachs). Really cool system. The shifting mechanism is done with rods and chains.
I just got the thing running again after repairing a pulled spoke. The shifter was tight and I ended up breaking the wire rod at the clevis. I need advice in how to repair this.
Here is one in good shape. http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=c72c79e3-ff53-46e6-8ee5-c8783240bae0&Enum=104
Here is my broken one. http://flic.kr/p/nEPyTJ
The force on the mechanism is pull. There is no push force. In other words moving the shifter pulls the wire. Moving it back, the derailer pulls it.
Perhaps I can weld a piece of wire on top and bottom to reconnect? There are clearance issues on the sides. Who would I go to to get this done? Thanks for your input!
