198? Norco Mountaineer.
It's almost identical to the Norco Mountaineer SL I bought in 1987 when I was in grade 6. I cut lawns and saved up every penny I could to buy the bike, I was 10 years old. Ended up trading it in on my next bike a 1993 KHS Comp. I found this bike at a second hand shop here in Vancouver BC a couple years ago.
I actually raced this bike in an event on the infamous North Shore trails of Vancouver. Did my best to look the part of a vintage rider, complete with gardening gloves and hockey helmet.
In riding a particular tricky section of trail called "The Stairs of Despair" my brakes finally gave out. I sent a rear canti into the spokes and destroyed the wheel and pulled off a brake boss. On the fronts I had already lost a pad.
The poor frame is in need of repair, some parts will be poached off it for a commuter build I am working. Some day I'll restore it to full glory.
How's this for "vintage"?

I gotta admit, Ritcheys are my favorite bike. I still have three of the five that have made it into my garage over the years. As much as I would love to have come across any one, I probably just paid too much for them all. My goal is still to find an early MountainBikes era one with original frame/fork/and bars.

My first mtn. bike, a '91(?) Diamondback Ascent. Funny, the thing that first caught my eye about this bike was the three cables running down the top tube - it just looked so cool. And dig that metallic purple paint, baby! :mrgreen: (with blue graphics, of all things!)
Loved it then, still love it now. The best handling, most fun MTB I've ever had. Full Deore LX components. Got the full titanium fasteners, Velo titanium rail saddle, Qrank ti bar, and assorted ZOOM ti finish parts treatment within a couple of years after I got it (with clear Ritchey grips so the ti bar would show full-length!), and who knows how many tires over the years, but still in great shape:
