Started out with a brand new bike from WalMart - an O.P. "Roller" ($99). Saw it one day and got an idea in my head..
As it looked from the store:
Black painted aluminum frame.
Vinyl stick-on graphics:
Vinyl stick-on graphics removed:
Removed the stock gray wishbone front fork. I had a typical chrome Schwinn-clone front fork laying around. Scuffed it and shot the top bracket and forks BBQ black. Scuffed the struts for a brushed chrome look. Had to take a chop-saw to the steering head so that it would all fit.
Test-fit:
Swapped off the stock seat for an old Brooks I had hanging in the garage. Chopped 2 1/2" off each end of the stock handlebars and flipped them. Added a pair of Nirve retro-style grips. Swapped on a new set of tires.
The end result:
And parked next to a vintage frame rat (that I have since sold):
