It amazes me how cheap vintage bikes are on the eastern side of the U.S. I guess I'm just use to everything being overpriced haha. I go on CL for my area and I'm lucky to find anything worth while priced under $250. I just got done looking around on the CL in the east and there are all sorts of stuff around $100. I feel like everything is about double the price out here at the very least. I can buy stuff on here and pay shipping and still pay less. lol. I know everything was made out that way, so there is a lot more bikes out there. Its just crazy the price difference. Makes me wanna pick up a big trailer and take a road trip!

Cool avatar. I guess bikes never displaced the horse out west. Gary
ha thanks, I had to change my monkey on the bike cause I saw another member already had it. and I guess not haha. There are horses everywhere out here :) no bikes

Bike stuff is getting expensive here in the rural midwest to. I saw a very old Schwinn mens bike in an antique shop in Plymouth Wisconsin a few weeks ago. It had a single bar but it was extremely rusty, maybe useless as the frame may have been weakened. This was $125 and probably only good for yard art. Last week there was an old mens bike in front of a farm house and they wanted $300. Even the thrift stores want $40 for junk and the police auction has started their bidding the last two years at $30 for junk. I did buy a pristine 77 Schwinn Suburban yesterday for $25 but that is not really what I am after, I want old single gear bikes.

Yeah I check out thrift shops/antique stores all the time too and havn't really found anything worth while. Most of the time they are overpriced. Found a repop Schwinn cruiser with the tank at an antique store once and it was priced at $1,000. I probably wouldn't have wanted it either way but people are just ridiculous

where in the east did you look? on cl here everything is overpriced. I looked for months and months, I got fed up with people and there goldmine bikes and bought new electras for my wife and I.

I think I was looking in Ohio and Michigan. I also just saw someone talking about buying an elgin in a thrift shop on the fresh finds forum for $100 and was talking about trying to get the price down to $75. Out here that wouldn't last a day at $100 haha.

Free Ride LBS N E corner Main and Val Vista, had a few gems that seemed reasonable in their back room last I was there.;) I have been here in Mesa for a minute.

It’s because here in the East we’re so bloody rich we don’t need the money.

Its always nice to find someone from my area on here. Speaking of my cracked frame. Do you do any welding or know anyone in the area that is a welder? Im lookin to get that frame done.

alright Ill quit my complaining!;) I picked up a complete bike, frame/fork and seat today for $60 bucks. Maybe its fewer and farther between trying to find a deal out here ha. Posting it on the Bike ID section check it out.

I'm telling you all... Blame it on "American Pickers"!
That show has people going so mental:crazy:, just look at Evilbay. I really wish they would show the whole episodes so they could see all of the stuff they walk by and don't even give it a glance to get to that one rusty chunk of treasure... that everybody is now convinced they have!

Like my Dad would always say, "Sure you might think it's worth "X" amount, but it's really only worth as much as somebody's willing to pay you for it".

ha yeah, its funny I'm lookin threw CL right now and see a guy on there with like 10 cool bikes all for sale, all are over priced though. I could find the stuff on here and other sites and pay shipping and it will still be cheaper.

Hah yes I know who you are talking about those posts taunt me on Craigslist and Facebook groups daily

Haha, yeah. Where are you located? I've dealt with tons of people that are into bikes out here. You buy and sell a lot out here?

I'm in glendale. I'm always looking for a nice rust bucket for the right price but haven't had much luck, recently got an old evans? Frame someone had built that I want to rat out

Going searching with my girlfriend tomorrow at some swaps or yard sales and whatnot to see if I have any lucj

Nice, I'm out in Mesa. Yeah I've never had much luck at yard sales. I wanna go out to the swap in Phoenix I've never been out there. I get lucky every now and again on CL but most of the time I'm buying stuff of here haha. Made a lot of good connections from people that I've bought or sold to on CL though.

Hopefully I will have some luck tomorrow. Looking for something for the lady but keeping my eyes peeled for a nice project too. Are there any local clubs or gatherings that you know of?
