What exactly do I have here?

I’m usually pretty good ID’ing these things, but this one is a little different. My brother bought some property and we found this in the woods.
The chainring kinda looks Columbia, but the frame kinda looks Murray-ish. It is a skiptooth bike with rear facing prewar style dropouts, but no adjusters. It has the small diameter, angled seat post. It has some funky cool handlebars that I’ve never seen before. The fenders newer chrome ones, but maybe not.
Either way, I’m bringing it home.

Definitely bring that home! It's a prewar American made bike in pretty good condition from the looks of it.
No adjuster slots is something I haven't seen on rear facing dropouts. Where the head badge was shows an outline, I see a black image but that may be something else. The holes are vertical and closely spaced which may be of some help. Everything may have been changed out over the years. That's all I can offer.
A serial number and closer pics might be the best way to ID it.

Looks like late 1930s or early 1940s.

I'm not good with pre war stuff nice find either way. I can tell you those handlebars will bring a pretty penny as they are.

Looks to be Colson to me , judging buy the chain ring and forks .

The other bike is a Huffy tandem I have. I bought it home. The more I look at it, it seems like it might be a Columbia.

I've owned 2 hufys and a columbia. Post a photo. The Huffy "Daisy Daisy" or "Bicycle Built for Two" has two 1/2" tubes running from the head tube to rear seat tube in a curvy pattern and is quite unique. It also has a separate "seat" tube for the stoker stem.

Columbia made skip tooth bikes with fork ends without adjusters. I had one. Your frame is similar to my Columbia but mine had truss rods. I saved it from a yard art display. I rebuilt it, stripped it, repainted it and put on new decals. The truss Rod braces and mounts were there but the rods were gone. I replaced the drive train as the original was rusted solid. The rear fork ends were worn so I used track style chain tugs. I gave it away last summer as I had too many bikes.

That's the same frame. Now if you can get the serial number, we can ID the year.
