Something newer today, my M30 from Raleigh. I bought this bike new in 1996 from Staples cycle center in Elmhurst Il. For some reason I never got rid of it and never changed anything, not even the tires. Just maintained it. I still think it’s a nice looking bike.
Same route again today, different bike. I fixed up this women's Free Spirit for a friend who wanted to come on one of our group rides this summer, but her schedule has been too hectic. So I tried to get my wife interested in riding it, but that didn't take. It's been bugging me that this bike is sitting in the basement all cleaned up and nobody is riding it, so I decided that I would.
It's actually a pretty nice rider, considering I have all of $18 in it. Call me a heretic, but I think I like Shimano 3-speeds better than Sturmey-Archer. In my experience, it seems they shift smoother and are easier to adjust.
It was getting to be dusk as I got back to the end of the bike path where I parked, and I thought this would be a cool shot, so I did the best I could with my smartphone.
Rolled with the Critical Mass this evening in Chicago. Took Muscle Spasm out for it's maiden voyage (finally!) Yes we were actually on the expressway...
Ross Compact. Talked two of my kids into taking a cruise through town with me and set them up on a couple of Collegiates. They talked me into stopping at a little Mexican joint downtown along the way. I must say, it was a very good call on their part.
