Hey everyone - my apologies as I'm sure this topic has been covered to death but I didn't find the answer to one of my questions. I'm in the planning/design stages of my build and am trying to decided on wheel tire combo. I know I want to go wide - 4" if possible but not sure about diameter - 24 or 26".

What is the appx diameter (tread to tread) of each? Build is gonna be a stretched cruiser style. I read somewhere that 26ers can have a diameter of 29" - how true is this?

Thanks!

i would suggest to use 24" if you go with fat balloon tires , i recently bought 3" Tall and wide balloons to fit my 26wheels and frame and i ended up having to use a 700c fork and make adapter drop outs to fit the rear wheel since the outside diameter was to big to fit

but if you get 26" 4" wide rims , and fit a 3" tire over that , it will have a more lowprofile look to the tire and may fit

This stuff is all math. 559 + 200 = 759mm/25.4=29.8818inches, so yeah, a so-called 26" with 4"(100mm) tires will be a theoretical 29.9" diameter. MEasure your frame and fork-- for both vertical and lateral clearance-- before you buy any parts...& don't forget to consider BB drop and pedal strike.
