I second that thought...I would have offered maybe $25 at a yard sale but obviously I don't have a clue about Laguna values...Please school us!

Is it the quality? the materials? The design?? Rarity? OEM list price?

I am being serious and not trying to bash the bike at all. It just is that I have never seen or heard of a Laguna until now.

Laguna was a manufacturer of BMX bikes in the 70s and early 80s in California. These bikes, while marketed as beach cruisers are still categorized as 26" BMX cruisers. Because of this connection with the BMX genre, guys today in their 40s and early 50s with disposable income who remember the bikes from their youth are willing to spend big money on a bike that they can actually ride.

Laguna marketed their bikes in the BMX magazines back then so most of us who bought BMX Action remember the tests they did on the bikes and their advertisements.

The shorter explanation is: supply and demand. A lot of ppl want these 26" BMX cruisers/ "strandies", but there aren't a whole lot of examples on the market.

I'm no expert on Cook Bros., but that must be one seriously rare set up. I can't imagine why anyone would spend that much on a frame set. You could pay someone like Johnny TrueTorch to build you an exact replica for probably $800.

It's obviously a heavy hitting collector that paid that much or just someone trying to build their ultimate dream bike. Whoever they are, they've got more disposable income than I'll ever have. :21:

That looks like a regular CBR 26 to me. It's not one of the 24s, or one of the limited edition Austin Cruisers. And it's got fresh powder on it. So, yeah, I guess that was one of these ebay miracles, or some sort of internet money laundering scheme....
