My '34 Colson Rat
The tank started as a solid 3x4 hunk of oak. Cut the shape, split it in two halves and routed the edges to mate with the frame.

I think so. My brother-in-law is a wood worker and he let me snatch it out of his stockpile.

I was thinking about this myself the other day. I'd like to make a wooden tank for my DX that's useable as a tool box. I'm toying with the idea of making box out birch plywood (I don't have all the details figured out yet), stained dark, with a brushed aluminum & louvered door on either side. I'm still turning the concept around in my head, so it's subject to change...

i did mine with 18mm thick Beech-Wood... bolted with three 10mm threaded rods and brass nuts... the beech-wood is stained with an "oak-finish" and coated with a single layer of 1-component clear coat (spray can)

... lasting on winter allready...

I think Clothespin n's 60''s Western Flyer has one of the slickest wood "tanks" I have ever seen.
