Your chain guard opinions please

I'd like your opinions. I got an old Monark chain guard for a 26" because I really like the lines. I'm going to modify it to fit my son's 20". When I fit it, and it hung out the back I thought it added a unique line to the bike, but maybe I've gone silly.

Do you think I should chop the guard down to fit within the end of the seat tube, or do you think I should modify it to hang out the back like you see it?

Are you going to have a rear fender? If yes...
It looks like with maybe with a little mod up front you could slide it back to look like its a fender suport too. I think I would also try to mount it outside the frame rather then between the frame and the wheel. Just a thought...

Yes I will be running a fender. And I had thought about running it outside. I hadn't thought about using it as a fender brace attach point, but that's a great idea! :shock:

How about running it outside in the back and attaching a light on the end of it somehow?

That's a good idea too. Right now I only have a headlight planned, but I'll keep an eye out for an appropriate tail light.

Run it long on the outside and add some header pipes.

I dig it, man. I say keep it clean - just notch it so you can run it outside the stay.

not sure how you'd work out the flow of it, but i think if i left it long i'd try to figure out how to attatch an exhaust tip.
