Five years ago today, during my first ever 20 mile bike ride. I remember being both exhilarated and completely wiped. 20 miles became a lot easier the more I rode, and I've hit 50 miles twice since then. Perhaps this will be the year I hit 100 in a day ride?

I love the water. Grew up boating and did marine work for years. Boats, dock work, diving, ........ My wife grew up boating as well and had a dad that was a genuine aquaholic

The Lovely Ms Dice picked up paddle boarding this year. She's completely smitten. She did a "full moon sunset" yoga class on the river this week, the photos are unbelievable.

This was shot 4 years ago, on the Island of Isle of Mull, Scotland.
I enjoy survival/bushcraft, just searching for food and a dry/non windy spot to sleep with your tent. This was with a guide that knew the area, plants, mushrooms etcetera.

Scotland (and nature) is my happy place. (I never cycled there though)....

I met him in Colorado about 20 years ago. Super cool people and the stories of his trips are what dreams are made of when it comes to bikepacking in the dirt. He dropped me an email while on a trip in Asia, detailing how he outfoxed Chinese border guards to get into Nepal with an expired visa.

Do you keep the Sebae Monos in a brackish tank? Super cool!

Thanks Sparky, I did for a long time. About four years.

I call these the African Mooneyfish, but they have many of names for monodactylus (“one finger”: This is the fish that’s giving us the finger.)

Now I keep them in full salt water, and I breed guppies and mollies (feeders) in their sump. This is my “office” (I’m retired) system.

But I give them a freshwater change regularly, and then just start adding the salt back into their system slowly.

These Mooneyfish need to cycle between freshwater and saltwater sometimes, in order to stay healthy**. At least this is my experience in keeping them for about six years.

** Those guppies and mollies don’t really seem to care. They adapt almost instantly.

Great system there. Total salt makes sense. Brackish is a challenge, as you've implied. I used to be totally into it, but after a 200 gallon tank breach, I quit for now. Maybe someday in a less tectonically active zone!

The big indoor/outdoor system is in my TV room and if it breaks there’s 125g indoors.

Felix and his cohort live there with me, in the TV room.

The 125 is connected through the wall to a 115g three vessel cascade system on my patio.

You can see photographs, and the how I built it threads, plus the fish, over at Fishlore and also at the Monster Fishkeepers forums. I am Ulu in both forums.

I did this stand-up biz on tarmak, on a 42" long skateboard. You use a pole with a rubber tip (meh) or a carbide spike that you . . . ummm . . . tattoo the road with.

I took a nice header when the spike broke. It worked too well, and I was just too gungho!

Some day when I'm drunk perhaps I'll post the aftermath photos.

Otherwise I bunged up both shoulders, riding the longboards. No surgery, but lots of PT and lingering arthritis. I still do PT every day on the left one.

That is great! I especially dig the Mono tank and your method of refreshing the saline balance.
I got called Sparky as a kid because my name is Mark and I had a really bad temper! The nickname stuck.
Those days are long gone and I'm a relatively mellow old dude.
Where I live (Indonesia) Ulu means "head". Anatomically like cranium or in terms of "boss", or even headwaters of a river.
Where does that name come from for you?
