As Promised, I will continue on "the Wolverine". If you followed my build during the BO12, you probably know what happend in this build until now. For the others: just head over to the first part of this build in the BO12.

As I told already, I made a major move from south of germany to Berlin and for various reasons I will stay there on a camping ground in a 1977 caravan for the first year (yes, this includes winter time). In the meantime I was able to settle in a bit at work and in my caravan. I even built a wooden deck into my awning and set up a improvised workshop.

During the last weeks in the south and the last two weekend here in Berlin I was able to collect a few more missing parts like brake levers, seat, seatstay and handlebar. And today I finally felt like laying my hands on The Wolverine. So this is what happend today.

After unpacking the frame and wheels I checked for the first time (!) if the rear wheel fits into the frame and of course, who would have thought, the single speed hub didn't. The rear was to wide.

So Sheldon Brown to help, a long and strong slat and some string and lots of little pushes and even more measuring later, the hub was a perfect fit and the frame still straight...

And some partially beat up parts got a quick makeover with black rattle can....

I'm kind of envious of your lifestyle there...living simply :)

Cool place to be building...

I will see how cool/cold it will be during winter.. :)
I'll probably need extra lights and heating in the awning to be able to build during the shorter days of winter...

You might find you like that lifestyle so much you decide to stay there.
Yeah, maybe, but my wife would never... :)
But the kids liked it here a lot.
Probably I'll keep it as a refuge for weekends, like a lot of other people do here on the campground.

The wife and I were in Germany this time last year. Berlin, Munich, and Fussen. We had a great time, and since I learned German for a year or so beforehand, I hope to go back in the future. From my limited experience as a tourist, Berlin was cool, but we LOVED Southern Germany. Some of my relatives were from Mecklenburg, which I never made it up to.

Don't know why I'm telling you all of this. Good luck with your current living situation, and good luck with the build.

I'm glad you liked it here! If you come back to Berlin drop me a note and we could meet and have a nice cruise through Berlin (I usually have some spare bikes...)

As today was a very nice and sunny sunday, I took the chance and continued a bit:
I decided that the (most of the) non cartoon parts will be flat black. So I went at it...

I also mounted the cups for the headset.

The bottom bracket is ready for the crankset (before and after), but before installing it, I need to buy some new cotters...

If you ask me why I use a cottered set, it's just what I have at hand and this build has a tight budget...

Long time no see...
Due to various reasons, the Wolverine was on hold for a far to long time. But now it's back on track.

I spent a few hours in my workshop the last days, to work on it and made good progress even though I hit some obstacles. As I wanted to put in the wheels to get the brake pads right, I suddenly realized, that the frame is a 28 and not a 26 as I thought all the time before. So I decided to take the rear wheel from my BO11 build (the Barrel Banana) and relace a front wheel with the same type of rim I had on stock, to the same 3L3T pattern.

On the front I will put a slightly slimmer tyre than on the back to give it a nice stance...

That's it for now. On monday I will get the wheels to my mechanic for truing...

I missed your caravan updates earlier. Cool to see this one come together .

Due to various reasons I switched the wheelset again to a pair which was originally meant for the Cycl'o'path. But now I was able to slap everything together this morning. After I picked up my boys from kindergarten I took the Wolverine for its first shakedown ride. Result: gears not shifting (might need some oil...) and lost the nut of the right cotter.... so back home on foot, pushing the bike... :-(

But at least I could take some pictures of the Wolverine out in the wild:

Back in the workshop, some drops of oil solved the shifting issue and the crank cotters got refixed with stop nuts.

Now I went at the replacement of the original feedthroughs for the break cable.
The original ones kind of disintegrated when I was taking them out and to find a stock part that fits was absolutely impossible.
The only survivor:

So I ordered some Sugru from the UK....

Now it just needs to cure over night.

After accompaning my kids to the kindergarden (they usually go there by bike!), I took the Wolverine for a spin around town to take some nice pictures...

As much as I like the colour scheme of the Wolverine, I still prefer the forward stance of the Capitan and after takeing the Wolverine for my daily rides the last two days, it already made my knee ache. So the Wolverine is going to be sold asap, as it was the plan all along. Tomorrow I will put up shop on the local fleamarket. Maybe it's already gone by sunday. We will see...

The Wolverine is still hanging in the basement. Even if I declared it finished, I maybe will tweak it a little again in the next few weeks.
The last time I rode it, I realized that the rear hub is toast. It doesn't change gears properly, so it has to go. Maybe I will also exchange the bottom bracket and crankset while at it.
Just today I made a nice score. Two rear wheels for 5€. The hub and spokes of the 28' will go into the rim from the Wolverine, the other one (26') will go into the parts pile for later use...

Back on the campground with the boys. The older one is out with a friend and the younger one is drawing while listening to audiobooks. So I had some time to take care of the rear wheel...
First I got rid of the spokes and the untrustworthy hub. Now I'm lacing over from the new wheel to the wolverine rim.

Like this I don't have to think to hard to get the pattern right (I know: lazy me) 😉😂
Tomorrow I will try my luck at truing the wheel...
