I love the finished product. A very collage way to do things but with great flair and artistry. IGH have a way of disappointing the owner. They wear out over time and are hard to service so they wear out even faster. After spending most of my 70 yrs with IGH's I'm down to one very stalwart Sturmey Archer 3 speed that I can service. All the fancy 5-7-11 speed hubs have bitten the dust and are long gone being replaced with derailleurs and cassettes. Much easier and cheaper to run.

Today I finally got the time to rebuild the front wheel.

It was really time to get rid of the cheap hub. Especially as I had a nice replacement on hand. I don't know where I got it from, but for the last two years I used it on my rowing machine...

It's a nice Maillard hub. I cleaned it up a bit and regreased it.

And with the trustworthy help of a Sheldon Brown tutorial it was pieced back together fairly quick.

I even managed to make the brand name readable through the valve hole...

Here it is ready for some final truing:

Or at least true enough for my purpose

And here's my truing stand (a left over rear triangle from my first SwingBike project). Working at the kitchen table, RatRodStyle...

Today I bought some new rime tape and finished off the relaced front wheel.
While at it I also rerouted the shifter cable, because when wearing normal street shoes I sometimes accidentally hit the shifter cable with the heels and changed gear in weird moments...
I also replaced the front brake cable (it ripped during my first January ride and only got a field repair since then) and cleaned of lots of dry dirt, also still on it since January...

I'll probably give it some road time tomorrow...

New shifter cable routing along top tube and seat stay (instead of down tube and chain stay):

The newly built up front wheel performed well on it's first Rideout. Today was our monthly protest ride through Berlin. Around 100 riders joined to fight for better bike infrastructure...

In the linked posting you can see me at the beginning of the video (orange helmet, yellow jacket) riding along with our group accompanied bike police on bikes and motorbikes
