The chainring will work. I'll grind off the teeth to make it skip tooth when I get motivated. The bars are iffy, I'm still on the hunt for a set that looks like the old ones. This black pair would need 2 inches chopped off at the ends and painted silver or wood like the other set. The seat looks too big when dropped, maybe it needs to be about a couple inches up. I'm overseeing work on the veranda for a few days so not much bike work can be done. It's getting a roof and tiles. I updated the shop clock while watching the tile go in.

I searched for a long time and found these bars like these. 12 bucks. Only 3 left and only in black. But they are getting paint anyway. They are called pista dropbars. These ae pretty close to the early handlebars.

The balcony is done, so I can go back to work on the bike builds.

I lost track of this build way back when, but it’s come along amazingly well.

It’s also amazing how much bicycle geometry has evolved over the years and how many different things have been tried.

I have not had my hands on a Skiptooth bicycle in 55 years. There’s one in town that’s been for sale at a local shop for years, and no one will buy it because it’s very crusty and he wants a lot of money.

I may lose all my common sense and buy it as a Christmas present to me.

Have you ground the teeth down on a ring before?
I don't think the spacing is the same between skiptooth and modern chain.
I might be wrong but I don't think so...

I'll use my skip tooth chain (that's being saved for a real vintage bike) and see how it lines up before I start any grinding. I have a few extra 18 tooth cogs to try first if I start grinding.

For posterity, I checked the chain wheels, they are the same size, the skip tooth is 26 and the standard is 52 teeth. The teeth lined up! The skip tooth chain wheel is a lot thicker so a standard chain wouldn't fit, and the skip tooth chain has the links close together between teeth so it wouldn't work on a standard sprocket unless you ground off every other tooth. I'm going to grind a 18 tooth cog, if that works, then the 52 tooth chain wheel will get the same treatment. I'm using the standard chain, not a skip tooth.

I remember the cheap 10 speeds from late 70's early 80's. The largest chain wheel sometimes was made with only every other tooth, so I'm fairly sure this will work.
I've seen older freewheels that only have every other tooth on the larger cogs so I'm pretty sure you'll be good to go too.

The spacing is different, between the two, just enough so they will not work. If you don't have skip tooth the best yo can do is, buy a 1" space chain and file every other tooth off regular sprocket........Curt

Hmm. I believe he's going for the skiptooth LOOK.
So grinding standard cogs and sprocket and using a standard chain? That's a lot of work for little payoff!

Yep, I still haven't gotten motivated.

In this example from outskirtcustoms, the chain wheel is more noticeable than the chain. Unless I looked closely, I would think that's a skip tooth chain. I think it's the chrome teeth on the sprocket that stands out from the darker colored chain.

To add, the Huffy chain wheel was never a skip tooth, especially a mag sprocket. The cloverleaf one I have should look natural as a skip tooth. I'm now motivated to do some grinding. But it has to wait, clothes are drying in the shop. Another blue tooth kareoke thing bit the dust, so I gutted it and used the speakers with my little amp and Mp3 walkman to upgrade my sound in the shop while the clothes dry.

Really looking forward to the handmade skip tooth. 44 tooth chainring? What is the rear?
