Are you making a steel fork or just going to buy a crabon one?

    Comic Book Bike Ads

Famed proto-blogger James Lileks doesn't remember a single story from the comic books he read as a kid, but he remembers the ads. In between the Charles Atlas ads telling you how to grow manly muscle and the X-Ray specs that encouraged unmanly leering, were ads for bicycles. Beautiful big bikes...

    poor mans truck (finished)

Excellent build. Imaginative, well executed and just plain fun. Thanks for posting it.

    Welding on drop forged forks

I wouldn't. Forks are so safety significant (think dental work that lasts a lifetime and never "heals") that a replacement fork makes sense. It isn't like these are rare.

    white walls or red

    Red is faster!

    crankset & handlebar cleaning

Light rust comes off with vinegar or lemon juice using a bit of wadded up aluminum foil to scrub with. This won't scratch the chrome. This is best for that light dusting sort of rust. Heavier rust gets the heavier acids. Oxalic acid or wood bleach can be had at paint stores and works well...

    England Robin Hood

Re: I found a treasure! That was one of Raleigh's brands. They'd give dealers exclusive deals for their territory and then sell other brands to competing dealers. Pretty much the same as a Raleigh Sport of its day.

    NOS parts Sell and Resell

Buddy, friend, fellow, colleague, all of those are two way deals. Sure you're being a pal by selling the guy something cheap. What sort of friend is he to be asking you to? That isn't your friend who wants work or product on the cheap. Well maybe it is if there's a history of below market...

The Gnash Single *(2 weeks later)

Fat street tires I really like the Kenda K-Rad. They come in 1.95 and 2.5 and have a light checkerboard sort of tread to them that rolls smooth on pavement or dirt and doesn't dump you on the occasional patch of sand and looks cool. The 2.5 is pretty serious fat. Highly recommended.

    Bike Tubing?

These guys will sell straight gauge chrome moly by the foot in any length you want: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/m ... ng_ov1.php Definitely not cheap but you were asking for "something strong but as light as possible" and this is it. You'll need to braze or TIG, IINM.

    How I stretch a frame

That is an extremely cool bike! But I gotta ask since you built the whole back triangle replaced the down tube and added a length to the top tube and changed the angle to the head tube, why not just use your own head tube and not mess with an old frame at all? It can't be more work to just...

Why are you laughing? 'cause it's hilarious. That's why.

    Reclaiming the endangered fleet.......

Re: Uh oh......The rest of 'em PODS. It's a company. They take a container to where you want and leave it as long as you want, you fill it, then they take it where you want and then you empty it, then they come and take the empty away. If you want they'll store the container for you. If you've...

    Going Cyclocross Racing

Excellent!!!!@1111 Cross rocks. It's the only kind of bike racing I do. Good people with healthy attitudes, no gear snobbery or not like tri or road racing anyway. That had to really pull a hard vacuum for the guy in second getting beat by a cruiser with a busted bottom bracket. In a lot of...
