Thanks guys. The paint will come together. I’m researching rattle can options with good custom car paint. I’m also getting an estimate for a professional paint job. I’m putting a lot of time and effort into this build, not to mention some really awesome parts, so I want it to look great. 👍

That's what I do too. This glitter paint just isn't the easiest to work with. The guy that made the above video puts 3 coats of 2K clear over it and lets it dry. Then wet sand and 3 more coats of 2K clear, then wet sand and polish. Unless you burn through then it's more clear. I can do that...

I did another test with the glitter paint. I used a black base coat this time and different clear. It got a similar amount of orange peel. It’s the glitter paint that orange peels. Then it accumulates with the clear. I think I might use a different metal flake paint. This can work with 2K clear...

I cleaned up these old welds while I was at it. A dab of filler and primer and should be good.

It’s impossible to get a pic showing that it’s all lined up but it is so it’s time to weld. All tacked up And the deed is done. The drag fork is now ready for finish work. The plan is to paint the forks to match the frame.

I've read that the Rustoleum clear that's made to go with their glitter paint also isn't very durable and damages easily. This guy has had really good results using the glitter paint with 2K clear. He paints Harleys with it and says it holds up well so maybe that's an option.

It doesn't show well in the pics but the glitter paint does have that metal flake look that I’m after. It’s just the heavy orange peel in the clear that’s a bummer.

That sounds like it would look better Maybe red Loctite could prevent this, especially on a bike that won't be ridden frequently? That's also why your builds turn out so incredibly cool!

Did you decided to stick with the paint that's on the frame? I'd be tempted to go with an all black tire with vintage tread pattern on this build, though the red walls might look pretty good too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those stems but I think I would go with polished...
