There’s some chance that this is the first time this NOS slick has been mounted on a rim. It mounted up just fine and looks great.
I love the smell of mock-up in the morning. The fork plates bolted right on with a standard Huffy headset.
The nice thing about using a 2.125 slick is that there are no clearance issues. Wheel bolted on perfectly after widening the frame to fit the 5 speed hub.

The first mock-up with the full drag forks and wheels. This is exiting! It looks great but I have to admit to being nervous about the next step- welding them up straight and true. I’m a novice welder still so hopefully it all goes well.

I’ll save the welding for a day when I have more time. I wanted a better look at the bike overall so I threw some more parts at it. It will fall apart if you touch it but it looks cool. I love the slick tire on the back.
if you pull the fork blades down a bit it’ll pick the frame up a little at the front, but it will pick the curve of the legs up and have the blades that hold the wheel more horizontal to the ground. Originals were nearly parallel. I try to achieve that but often I’m off a bit.

Yeah, I've been adjusting the forks up and down in the triple trees and it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference in how parallel the tubes are to the ground, but it is noticeable. I need to get over to the other garage where my welding equipment is to set it up permanent. I'd like the legs down in the triples as much as possible without the angle at the front of the forks looking too off level. We'll see how it goes but I'm loving this build!
It may that the curve is just tighter. These were scraps after all.
It looks super cool, scraps or not! It's probably just due to head tube angle.

I want to do a red metal flake on this bike. I’ve been looking at options for paint. I’m going to stick with rattle cans so options are a bit limited. I watched some videos where guys painted guitars with this stuff and had great results.
The gold metallic made for a good base coat for the red glitter.
The glitter paint is textured and kind of flat so a clear coat is needed. First coat of clear:
Not too bad but it accumulates orange peel quickly. Here’s coat 3 wet:
And dry to touch:
The orange peel is pretty dramatic. It’s going to take a lot of wet sanding to knock this down. I might save this paint for future projects and order some better paint. I’ll see how much sanding this will need first.

And the metalcast comes in red
That looks great, I might give that a whirl. Thanks! I also thought about using 2k clear over the glitter but that might be putting lipstick on a pig.
