    Monochrome Motocross

Quill stems are either 21.1mm or 22.2mm diameter for 1" forks. Measure the interior width before buying something. The sizes mentioned come out to 13/16" and 7/8" diameter Imperial. Quill stems are still being sold new in both those sizes and of course there are millions of them being ridden...

    Favorite Bike Shop?

In West Sacramento my go to shop is Edible Pedal. Brian the sole proprietor rehabs older better quality steel frame bicycles and usually has a real cool collection of iron for sale. I buy all my sundries, tubes, rim tape, handlebar tape from him. He also has a very nice rotating collection of...

Freeliner with 3 x 1 gearing is GO!

Very creative use of the rear derailleur/chain tensioner. Bike turned out really well. You should be able to ride this anywhere a mountain bike can go. Looking forward to your paint/polish job.

    ⭐ LoCo-Motion ⭐ ReTrO gRaVeL

A good starting place for a personal build. Frame and fork, and as most of you have done the fork isn't a given either. At least you will know what you have and it will be in a usable condition.

    Loose on Tucson

Great looking frame pump and you are right in questioning its usefulness. Hopefully it is a good one. This is a really nice klunker build.

    Loose on Tucson

I tried axle wing nuts for a while and found that you can only get them medium tight. My front wheel would move under pressure in the fork ends. I went back to good old axle nuts with the appropriate wrench getting them tight. This is a great looking bicycle and I think it is going to be a...

    VINTAGE BICYCLE PHOTOS

Very Early Recumbent bicycles. I heard about the French efforts in the 30's but these predate that. Way cool.

I should have just let them sit and collect dust

Those are cool rims, never heard of them but good start.

Very cool effect with the polished bars.

I like the fact that the frame kinda mirrors the GT design at the seatpost except in reverse. Cool.

    Skinny'matic

What a nice selection of parts. I especially like the chainguard but am looking forward to the "special secret cheesy sauce" chainguard you have in mind. I notice that everyone is hungry.

    Pro Touring '62 Schwinn

I've always used an anvil or a concrete driveway as the backing for tapping on the axle as you roll it around. It really doesn't take a lot of force. I use a 5lb sledgehammer but even a carpenters hammer will work in a pinch. You might deform some threads a little but one journey of a cone on...

    Jude's finds

Varsity is going through a repaint right now. I had it powder coated and it is beautiful. I have never painted anything as well as this shop did. I'm going to start a thread shortly on this repaint. I own 3 diamond frames of 66cm up to 69cm. I also own a Ryan Vanguard recumbent. My...

    Gone Fischwinn - New Build

Good job on your fishing bike. Love the bell. Good choice of bicycle type for getting back in the woods a ways. Lots of dirt roads that a bicycle like this handles well. Lots of fishermen and women use bicycles in our area but few are as well appointed as yours. I hope you were able to...

    Jude's finds

When I bought my early 80's Nishiki Sebring the CL seller assured me that the front fork was fine. I traveled to San Jose because the bike was a 69cm frame and he only wanted $35 for the bike. Should have known, after traveling all that distance the front fork had a dimple on one of the legs...

    Big Ripper for the fleet.

I have gone back to all unanodized aluminum rims. Just the silver aluminum color. I have worn off my share of colored rim brake lands and I don't like the black center that a lot of aluminum rims have. Once the color starts to wear off you could sand the brake area to clean off the color and...

    Pro Touring '62 Schwinn

Great idea. Your new fork is a big improvement. This bike is looking great with the skinny wheels and new fork. I know Schwinn changed the inner workings of the kickstand at some point in the 60's or so but maybe a 27" Varsity/Continental kickstand will work. Otherwise one of these after...

    Circle Freak.

I have had some beautiful ideas that worked so well in my head but after a few days of careful consideration there was a fatal flaw in my design. Usually a suspension of the laws of physics or gravity or some other small error that was totally blitzed in the endorphin blizzard of the idea only...

    Shadow speed

Beautiful old Schwinn Paramount. I bought a 1971 racing Paramount brand new with serial #7153 and used it for years. It was a 26" frame with Reynolds 531 double butted tubing. It came equipped with sew ups which I later changed to 700c. That bike rode wonderfully but would oscillate in sharp...
