    Colson serial number help!

36 holes, 13 gauge. There may be another stamping of a letter followed by a number 1-4. e.g: G2

    Colson serial number help!

FBC was obviously stamped after the fact because it's a different font. It could have been done by a previous owner with that being their initials, or if it was a shop bicycle, the name of the shop in case it went missing.

prewar schwinn badged as century? is it legit?

I wouldn't feel like you missed an opportunity; to me 350-400$ can get you a prewar Schwinn with original frame, fork, and fenders. This is way too cobbled to bring 400$.

prewar schwinn badged as century? is it legit?

That Century badge is indeed one that Schwinn used. I wouldn't worry about the crank, chances are it's just poorly adjusted or somebody forgot a washer last time it was greased. The springer was first available in 1939, but this frame never would have had a one because it's earlier than that...

    Firestone tank ID help

Okay, that is a really unique frame. It is built by Murray and the bike would have essentially been a very late prewar Elgin or a very early postwar Elgin (Elgin is generally associated only with pre-WWII, but it turned up for a blink of an eye after production returned in 1945). It is a...

    Firestone tank ID help

This tank would be for a postwar frame--50s era. If the frame you picked up is indeed prewar, then this would not fit because of frame changes over the years. I don't know about the interchangeability of Monark tanks; it's definitely from a lady, though. Also, a prewar Firestone Pilot most...

    Garage Sale Find

Sounds a lot like a Murray frame. Sounds like a Higgins Flightliner or similar if you say Schwinn style frame.. the Flightliner came out in 1959--the year Schwinn's patent on the cantilever frame expired and it was open season for all manufacturers.

    questions about my hawthorne find

Looks '52-54 but CWC serials in this era spell it out plain as day if you flip 'er over. Very atypical color. I think I've seen one other.

    any idea what this is?

Not a Schwinn; looks like a cheap Euro version of an american bike. Stelber, Ross? Unless you see your dream part on one of these bikes, they'd both be easy to walk away from for me. Nice, original paint Higgins turn up for 150$ if you like that first bike.

Yeah, block chain is quite pricey. Probably averaging 100$ for a full length piece. There is a wheelman reproducing these though so it may get hard to tell. If it seems too nice, it probably is. Check for chain stretch. If it is 100 years old, it will likely be stretched pretty good. I think...

1937 Rusty Roadmaster ??? and Schwinn Typhoon with pics

Serial will be under the bottom bracket. Blue is definitely a repaint. The kickstand is from the period--late 30s but was not original to the bike. Desireable "Flying-V" fork, early frame & parts, crossbars make it a good base to build up how somebody would like to. Maybe they can even strip the...

1937 Rusty Roadmaster ??? and Schwinn Typhoon with pics

The man speaks truth. Also, this frame first appeared mid-late '36, so that makes narrowing it down easier. I've only seen one or two of these bent tank frames with the early parts like that. The joints at the headtube should be different as well. More like a Schwinn joints versus the typical...

1937 Rusty Roadmaster ??? and Schwinn Typhoon with pics

Nice Roadmaster; I would put your bike as a late '36. The chainring and scallop guard was a feature on 35-36 bikes but a serial may help verify that. Also, a picture of the joints at the head tube. First year Typhoon 1962 only frame. Very nice finds!

    vintage bike weight

Shipping weight for 60s Schwinn "lightweights" is right around 50lbs so probably a few pounds for packing material. I've shipped up to 65lb bikes and I'm pretty sure my Colorflow is right around 70.

    Unknown Tandem

Value would really depend on if you think you could separate them. How good are you?! It looks like the headtube was left on the Huffman and the other tube just shoved up through it? People are always looking for those forks; those can be sold for 100$. Just point out to him that the thing is...

    is it worth $200?

Nice find! 1939-41 Mercury. Looks to be mostly there and correct. Would have had a dropstand, and if it's a non-lit tank, then a torpedo fender light up front. Lit tank would have had a fender ornament. You've got all the major parts. With the serial, the year can be nailed down.

Memory Lane Finds - 2 Firestones

Nice wandering with you today! You can't go wrong with that Elgin; I'm surprised it remained all morning. I had never seen a Firestone badging on them until just a few weeks ago on the Cabe. The tank detail is different from all the common badgings too. Yours looks spot on with this one in the...
