Looking at getting a repops 1 1/8 threadless monarch springer to upgrade a plain unicrown fork on a Dyno Ultra Glide. It appears a triple tree or schwinn style won't work with a tank, leaves me with a beehive or similiar I'd have to convert via headset or these which should be a direct fit...
The 80s mongoose Californian, did exist but it was a BMX bike, made famous as Cru Jones bike in the movie RAD! This definately looks 90s, if not newer. It looks similar to a huffy cruiser I have seen, which I wanna say 2004/5ish
Was it really successful though?
I've read that some Kickstart contributors still haven't gotten thiers, and the ones that have, are sorely lesser than what they were promised, not only in range, but speed and quality.
There was an article up on yahoo about this sonders yahoo. I'd be leery...
The biggest issue with sram. IGH is the parts availability. Unlike a Shimano or SA, the sram parts are near extinct now, and very few shops will touch the things if they fail.
Most rear IGH cannot take the stress of a ebike motor. You really need a rolhoff or DaVinci hub if you want to not have to rebuild your hubs constantly.
Those are fairly pricy options that the average Joe isn't going to want to pay for with an off the shelf solution trying to meet a pricepoint.
I'm in the process of converting my rrbbo 8 bike, Chunkpunk (mongoose dolomite)from last year to a brushless electric hub. I wouldn't want to go gas, it really limits where you can use it imo.
Going with a front hub motor really eliminates many of the problems you have while converting...
Help, help the 80s are coming back! Not that I care, I think the neon color bmx of the 80s was one of the best looking eras for bikes. I don't really care for the styling from the 60s-80s pretty much.
A prewar tank bike in neon would rock... oh wait building a couple now.. lol
Yes, the picture of a dirty hipster, dressed in winter clothes and boots, walking a siberian husky, on the beach, that really makes me want to buy one.
Excuse me while I vomit at what has become of the bike industry.
I used to like them when they first started out, but yes, the price increases(were already high for a cruiser imo) and the lack of imagination and just resprays on the same frame really turns me off.
Trek is gonna trek. At least they arn't specialized?? Lol
3 piece cranks are a big indicator if the bmx is of higher quality. Also parts that are cast or stamped with known brands.
Anything from the 80s is worth $10 currently.
Good luck! LOL
But in support of your build, heres hows someone goes about doing Motocross surfing!
