1930s Western Flyer Who made this ??

Where'd you see the serial? Is a picture not showing up for me?

    Schwinn serial number help.

I guess the important pictures are there! I'd call it a '47 or early '48. 1948 serials start back up in August, on D, so you can backtrack that and guess at where C lay. It looks like the wheels were swapped from a JC Higgins bicycle, since it has a Musselman rear hub and Sears Allstate tires...

    Is this worth it?

Paint stripper will kill everything. The success of taking it back to the original paint depends on the type of paint that it is. Some people have had amazing results with EZ-off over cleaner. It seems to be about 50/50. I don't know which type comes off best, be it lacquer, enamel, latex...

    Is this worth it?

I was too! The particular Shelby braces curve like a big crescent. CWC ones have this subtle curve as such. Thanks Ohdeebee for the photo:

    Schwinn serial number help.

The serial calculator doesn't work for something of this age. That's only reliable for post-1948 (due to a fire in the Schwinn records room). And this has the earmarks of an earlier bike. Pictures are essential, but it could be an early postwar with that serial number ~1946-47. Or prewar. As B6...

1930s Western Flyer Who made this ??

HP Snyder and CWC made the "same bike". Subtle differences, sold as the same model, but this is of Cleveland Welding Co. origins. Such a beautiful find. The correct dropstand would be the CWC braced stand, like the Colson stands, but without cotter pins. Not found every day but this bike is...

Prewar Delmar & Gambles Hawthorne, delmar serial number

I'd be curious to see a picture of the serial on the Delmar. That would just be a badging offered through Simmons Hardware. It'd be a frame from a major bicycle manufacturer, just badged by the store that sold it.

    Is this worth it?

I would agree that this is most likely. By 1939, this frame had fallen out of favor for more modern stylings. This was so 1936. It got dropped to the bottom price tier for bicycles and was offered relatively unequipped. The light could have been added for probably 50 cents or so. Here's a '39...

    Does this headlight look familiar?

There were also bikes that would have had a pair of these mounted to a bracket, thus not requiring a base. This could have been one of those, or just missing a base, like many are. Great find! It'd be worth mentioning in the listing if it's a glass lens; I can't tell from the pictures, but those...

    Is this worth it?

Looks mostly correct CWC (except guard). The forged blade fork with the curved fender braces would lead me to call it a '39 or '40 double bar roadster. There was never a tank produced for these and this was usually about the highest equipped they came, other than an optional rack. The...

    serial numbers help

That Jet Pilot is wicked! You don't see many of those.. especially so complete and original. It's around 1960-61. The Sonic Flyer is 1962 and the Monark should be 1959 if it is indeed the same frame and has a real headbadge. If it has a sticker headbadge, it would be a '69.

Who Still Has (and uses) a Record Player?

Indeed! I bought my 1968 GE foldaway off craigslist almost 10 years ago. Worked perfectly then; works perfectly now. I've thought about getting a high grade vintage system, but this old solid state has been good to me.

Please help I.D. this motorized bicycle

Hard to say. Kind of looks like somebody made a Flying Merkel tribute. It's hard to tell if the frame was fabricated from a standard bicycle. It looks too long and the downtube would be shaped differently if it was originally going to a bottom bracket (I know these things can be done). Frame...

    How to ship wheels

BOX SIZE! I can get a pair of wheels shipped by way of USPS for around 25-30$ anywhere. The #1 thing to know is the price tiers by size. USPS price rates jump after 84 linear inches. They jump again after 108. A box that perfectly fits wheels tends to be right around the 84 mark. Linear inches...

    1952 S-4 Schwinn

If you look at the 1948 serial list, it starts in August (because of the great fire in the records room). In August, they were on D serials. Earlier in the year, you can assume they had been at C. But the records from 1948 January to July, along with all previous records were lost in the fire...

    ID THIS FRAME

I thought it looked like a small bike. Yeah, they nailed it. 20" Sears Spyder circa 65-68ish. True cantilever, all chrome, Murray style guard.
