I'm debating on replacing the cottered crank on the president with a modern slicker cotterless bottom bracket and chainring. The current cotter works well, but long term cotter maintenance is a pain (IMHO).

Re: Craigslist nightmares and dreams... funny stories I have an Alenax. It is great for exercise, but the speed shifter is odd. The 26" rear wheel has 2 freewheels, one on -each- side, so it could be used to make a left hand drive bike.

They are kendas. I got them off ebay; I think the seller bought the wrong tires and was trying to get some money back.

As I was working on other bikes, I had one of those 'waydaminute' moments where I realized I could cobble together a cool bike from unused things scattered around my garage that I kept shuffling around to get to other things. So I grabbed a red Schwinn Racer frame from 1966, put on the crank...

thanks for the info. There is a manta ray for sale on CL that isn't being marketed right, and ' needs new tubes'. It appeared that the front needed special tubes, and now that I know they use the stingray parts bin for it, that makes it easier to source tires and tubes.

on my wheel, the sprocket side cover has a metal disc in the center, that the fixed sprocket seems to be keeping on.. thus why I want to remove the cog, so I can remove the wheel cover.

I've been trying to find out the tire sizes for the Manta Ray that came out last decade in department stores. I'm assuming the rear one is the 20x4.25 that Schwinn aka Pacific Cycle used on everything else, but I can find any info on the front wheel. Thanks!

did you leave the black wheel covers on? I cut off the heavy rubber wheel from the rim. Now to drill a valve hole.

Has anyone ever removed the fixed sprocket (not a freewheel) from a Schwinn Exerciser wheel? I want to save the otherwise awesome 20" wheel and put a freewheel on it, or just use it as a front wheel. Thanks!

I have several forks in my stash where the screw that mounts the fender into the bottom of the headtube has broken off. Any clever solutions on drilling out the remainder? Note, I do not have a drill press. Thank you!

Got this 24" Evans Sonic Scout in the AM. All the blue was repainted over years ago, and all the fender screwholes have rotted out. Otherwise works okay. Almost complete, missing headbadge and needs a more appropriate seat. Got this Raykal President (made in England) in the afternoon. tires...
