Having trouble getting headset cups out...

You might try gripping the cup with a vise grip plier and then whacking the plier with a plastic mallet.

I have the same bell on my 1908 Elgin King. Sounds like the ice cream truck coming down the street.

MN, Classic Bicycle Swap Meet & Show at Penn cycle june 9th

I will be there and setup with a couple dozen bikes. Any Rat Rod members please come by and introduce yourselves. I'm the old guy with the grey goatee, probably wearing a green NDSU hoodie and driving a dark green F150 with a trailer.

    Prewar Elgin ??

Nice find. The pedal extension is often used because the threads have been stripped in the crank.

    panther

Wasn't there a 60's Panther with a peanut tank? That tank attached to 2 tabs welded to the frame. Except for the tabs, that frame would be the same as a cantilever Typhoon.

    Headset jam nut removal

I bought a socket that fits the nut and used my air impact. Sometimes on a tough one I have to tighten and loosen several times to get it moving, but it hasn't failed me yet.

    Speedster

I don't think it is a 1952. Middleweights weren't introduced until 1954. I think it is probably 1958 or 59 before the Speedster became a lightweight.

    Wedge stuck in forks

I have had success in drilling out the fender screw, put in PB Blaster from both ends and then driving the wedge out from the bottom with a long screwdriver or rod.

Greetings from Minneapolis Minnesota - 1936 Schwinn

Welcome from a fellow Minnesotan. You may want to try a spacer between the fender and the crank housing. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

What in the world is this??

I have never before run into a contraption like this. Says it is a Radial Gear 9 Speed. When you push/pull the shift lever, it somehow stops the front chainring (nylon) and the parts that drive the chain then move in in slots (smaller diameter) or out (larger diameter). If that isn't weird...
