Late for dinner brought up a good point on the chain. You will need a multi speed specific chain compatible with a 6 speed cluster for the derailleur to function. I'm not for certain but I believe the original front sprocket will work. IIRC the pitch is the same it's just the chain...

I might live in Illinois but luckily I'm very close to Kentucky and Indiana. My Mother grew up on a farm in KY and we still have family living there.

Grease is a highly rationed item in China. It's less expensive to replace when worn out then to grease it.:D Seriously, glad they got a replacement to you.

Is a chain breaker really needed? I'm not a bike mechanic and therefore no authority on the subject but with a rotary tool, vise, punch, and hammer I have never needed a special chain tool for bicycle, dirt bike, ATV, motorcycle.... chains. I just remove a appropriate link and add a quick link...

True WalMart has a bad tendency to mark bike frames as aluminum when they're not but so far all the other sites I've looked at with the Kawasaki bike list it as having a aluminum frame as well. Time will tell if that is true or not.

This 29" wheel Schwinn Midway looks to have the same steel frame as the single speed Ventura but with 7 speed rear derailleur and linear pull brakes like the aluminum frame Low Glide. Right now it's $30 less the the Low Glide...

It seems to me like most of the 80's and 90's chromoly steel frames were made by Giant in Taiwan, leading to the similarities between many brands and models.
