Bootlegger went to the right guy

Tell him he needs to join the site so we can keep up with what he is doing easier than going through you. Its always nice to know that something you put your time and effort into is being appreciated. I bet it was tough letting it go but now at least you know its in good hands.

    1947 Dayton

Project update: I mentioned earlier that the chainring was bent a bit and would need to be persuaded back into shape. Everytime the crank turned it would throw the chain, so it needs some help. Today I dropped it off to my uncle and he is going to straighten it for me. I originally was going to...

    Greetings

Welcome! :) No matter what you ride, you should find plenty of acceptance around here. There are a lot of vintage bikes and cruisers here, that is true, but the more you look around you will find alot more. I originally thought it was just the rat rod bikes and cruisers, which is what I was...

    Confused Huffy

Have you checked what the serial number is on the bottom bracket yet? If you post it here someone could tell you what it is, there are several databases for serials. There should also be a link in the HOW TO SECTION of the site.

Oh  Well the Hiawatha is also red and blue but covered with patina. Fleetwood is definitely a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Huffman built bikes

    What's in your stable?

I know this is a really old post but I was looking for other Hiawathas to compare mine to. Do you still have the 48 Hiawatha and do you have a picture of it that I can compare mine to? Thanks

    1947 Dayton

Just to be clear the red and blue bike is a Gamble's Hiawatha made by Shelby. I bought it first then found the Dayton thinking it too was a Hiawatha but instead it wasn't. Either way I am lovin the Dayton and this will become custom where as the Hiawatha will remain original (except for tires...

    1947 Dayton

Haven't been able to work on the bike lately. But I will update some changes being made. I found out that the tires I already have(26x2.125 Whitewalls) won't fit the rims for the bandbrake 3speed rear that I have. And apparently I can only get tires to fit in a 26x 1 3/8. So the band brake set...

    Confused Huffy

need to talk to 37fleetwood hes the resident Huffman expert. I know that he helped me out considerably. I have a 47 Dayton/Huffman frame but my rear drop outs are different from yours. I would guess( note ONLY a guess) it is later than 47 so maybe 48-49 or could really be a 50s bike. Either way...

    HELP! Need to find tires...

Does anyone know where I can get tires for a 590mm wheel? I want either a white wall or a solid colored tire but not sollid black. My issue is that I can't find them in a 2 inch wide tread. Any help would be great!

    1947 Dayton

Ok so now my thought is correct as far as what you were suggesting. And I like the look of that, it is one of the things that caught my eye when I first saw the Hiawatha. However I like the look of the brazed joints and don't want to cover up that little bit of a visable history lesson. So my...

    A difficult thing to say

"Be who you are, I can't stand people who lie to try to fit in, If you share the love for rat rod bikes we already like you!"-OUTSKIRTCUSTOMS (bottom line of all posts) I have always loved this line and it seems very fitting in this moment. Be who you are- stay true to yourself and do what you...

Anyone still have a card in the spokes still?

I was thinking about doing that with the Dayton. I don't remeber how to fasten the card though  Any pics? Thanks

    1947 Dayton

The fork was sprayed flat black tonight and the fenders I was going to spray black tomorrow and then this summer they will be pin striped. I was thinking red white and yellow for the striping colors. We have a ratrod car show every year around here and there is no shortage of pin stripers at the...
