    1980 Collegiate 3 Restoration

I've had good success with just cleaning thoroughly and clearcoating the frame. It looks really good on all I've done. And it gives me a shot at another gratuitous post of my Collegiate... :D

    So I get a message....

It is almost a given that the kids think they can make some money without having to do anything for it. I wouldn't worry about it.

Is this thing really a schwinn?

The top tube and down tube are fillet brazed to the head tube on this 1988 Schwinn High Sierra. I don't know why the reat of the bike frame isn't done that way. According to MOMBAT, none of the other years are like that.

    Not Fixed

It's been around as a fad for several years, and now seems to be fading. I still don't get the fixie thing. Now, I don't want to be judgemental, everybody has a right to get thier bike on. However(comma) it seems that limiting your efficiency by only having one gear makes no sense. If you like...

    bash guards

They are better than having nothing. If you wear pretty baggy pants, they'll get caught up once and a while. SKS makes modern chainguards for bikes with front derailleurs. I have one awating installation on a project bike. http://www.sks-germany.com/sks.php?l=en ... 2e644b7476

3 1/2 miles into my 8 mile work commute.......

IF you do ALL THREE of the above things you won't have a flat.

3 1/2 miles into my 8 mile work commute.......

I can ALMOST guarantee no flats forever on any tire if you do the following: (1) Get a "thornproof" tube (2) Fill with Slime (3) Install in tire with a Mr. Tuffy or Slime liner
