    springer fork

Forgot about Hooch's "forq." The forum used to censor four letter words ending in 'k.' viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1014&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=forq

    Cottered Cranks...

I agree with deorman. You have a mismatched set. I say grab a new axle, and some square taper crank arms. They'll save on the hammering next time you have to repack the bottom bracket. If you really want to re-use the current set you're in for a bunch of tweaking.

Cotter pins come in three sizes. Did you get a smaller one?

    Fix a cracking tire...???

For any sort of structural damage, which you have, you can't do anything. Patch glue is sticky because of pressure. The outside of the tube presses against the inside of the tire. If you were to glue a tire, it would be pressing against the air. And 14.something psi isn't enough pressure.

    sprocket question

If it's a freewheel hub, you could get a single speed freewheel.

Lock three speed to one gear

If you can lock it into direct drive (2nd?) gear you might be a little better in the efficiency department than the other gears.

I May Have Saved Someone's Life Today!

Good on ya for calling 911 and cooling him off. The jerking around with his head back may have been a seizure. When the brain warms up too fast, usually from a fever, it short circuits. The eyes in the back of the head, and unresponsiveness make me worried that his brain got really hot. It can...

    Brooks Saddle

Maybe use a gentler leather conditioner to keep the leather from ripping off the nose? The thinner oils tend to really soften leather. I like Limmer boot grease for boots, saddles, bags, etc. because it's thicker, and has less of a tendency to saturate leather. Your saddle may be way past that...

Does the mp3 player provide enough power, or do you have to amplify the signal?

That's absolutely devastating. (You know, in a good way)

    Easy & Cheap Jackshaft

Why weld it like this rather than drilling the cog and bolting it to the hub flange?

Is stripping to metal that important?

Painting should be called prep. Everything you do before spraying paint will determine how the finished job looks. Stop stripping when you get a good smooth surface for the new paint to stick to. If the old stuff is brittle, deeply scratched/cracked, or peeling, it is just easier to go to...

fightin fires, possibly kickin tires as well (new pics 7-7)

It's a tie between having kids and partners as patients for me. They both kick things up a notch. I did standbys for large fires as an EMT and was always shocked at how far the fire fighters would push themselves physically. After a few hours at a big fire, it seemed like everybody was...

Do you ride on streets or sidewalks/bike trails?

My bike is my car. If I only rode on trails, I'd never get anywhere. Everywhere I've lived, riding on sidewalks is illegal. In the rare instances I drive, cyclists riding 2 wide in a pack of 100 bothers me to no end. It is impossible to pass. I rarely feel that I'm about to get clipped when I...

    Am I crazy...

^^^I don't own a car and ride a el-cheapo 10 speed a minimum of 9 miles every day. It has bottom of the barrel Shimano hubs. I check their tightness every month when I check tire pressure, brakes, etc. They get repacked before and after the winter season here in Colorado. Do you need them, no...
