No idea what I should call this monstrosity, so I might as well do something to catch your attention. This is (I think) my third attempt at class 2 and I'm going to sell the farm if I can't finish this one. I've spent a good chunk of today aligning my frame jig.

I didn't realize it, but when I built it a few years ago I put a pretty wicked twist in the main bed, which obviously threw everything I built out of sorts. I did some preliminary measurements and determined that I would have to extend my jig (which is already 7 feet long) another two feet

Anything with that amount of width on the wheels and requires a 9 foot jig has my interest for sure!

Starting this off by making my own seat pan. I wanted to use a Solo pan, but the nose on them is too wide and would do a hecking murder on my thighs. I have this exercising bike pan which has a similar shape to the Solo, but isn't nearly as expensive, so I skinned it.

Then used my favorite seat pan as a template for the front section of the pan. Afterwards, made a paper template and transferred it to the steel plate and beat it into shape

It's all held together with some 1/4 T nuts that will be trimmed to length once I decide which leather i'm going to cover this saddle in. I picked up a Solo mounting kit, but of course it was too wide and not tall enough for this application, so I ended up making my own from a piece of 1x2" tubing

Did a quick and dirty mock-up of the rear wheel so I can start fabbing the frame. Still waiting on the head tube stock and hardware, but at least this way I can do something today

Bending some tubing for the lower part of the frame. I've always wanted a tail dragger, figured now is as good a time as ever to finally make one.

Thought I'd show off a little more about the wheel I'm using. It's a 140 spoke, 26x130mm rim from MicargiI. I'm using half a hub from a 70 Schwinn tandem, and the other half is custom made. Used the chain ring from a Huffy to match the Schwinn flange height and welded it to a random threaded hub from my parts bin, then widened the whole mess to clear the rim. Which made it 9" wide overall

Can you keep the chainline straight? Or will there be a 'center' free spinning hub to accomodate for that?

You mean a jackshaft? I'm hoping to keep the chainline straight. Picked up a three piece crank conversion that I plan to cut in half and widen. We'll see how that goes

I've had this chain ring for years now, and I've always thought it was one of the most elegant pieces I've ever seen.

I wanted to use it on this build, but I don't have a few hundred bucks to throw at the 15 feet of inch pitch chain I'd need. I decided to upgrade my design approach from C.A.D. (cardboard aided design) to S.A.D. (scanner aided design). I'm creating a scalable vector drawing so I can convert it from a skip tooth sprocket to use modern 1/8" x 1/2" chain. This way I can also adjust for how many teeth I want on the sprocket before I have a new piece laser cut by a semi local shop

WOW, Total ground up build!, Loved the fabbing of the seat brackets, the 9" rear brings you into "son of Kradus Garage" status! and this fabricating your own spockets and hubs..... thats next level Bro! Gonna be an awful lot of peeps watchin this one....setting a standard!

Started work on the backbone, might put a little more curve on the lower section tomorrow. I think it turned out pretty decent. I'm making the frame mostly out of 1.5" square tubing
