I also realized i got to a point where i had zero workspace left on my workbench! :D. Time to declutter a little so I can actually work on it.

I wasnt very confident on my centerlines or how plumb my bat junction line was with this conical shape, so I abandoned the idea of being precise with my initial cutout lines. So I simply marked up rough lines with plenty of margin all around and came up with this Boba Fett design.

Broke out the dremel and ended up with this samurai helmet.

You're just a few pie cuts away from making it work. And yep, my workspace needs some housekeeping too, funny how that happens.

Got some room back. Roughly started hammering the nose sides.

Did a simple clamped bolt mount for the yard sale bench grinder I got a few weeks ago. This thing rocks! Nice upgrade for the shop.

Went to work on removing all of the paint/coating from the bat.

Did a simple cleanup of the bat with a tiny wad of Never Dull and paper towels.

Nose cap is still rough but removed the tape to get a better feel for it.

Taped it up again to make the cutouts more uniform and symmetrical. Also laid out the curved ends. Got to it on the grinder wheel and some filing.

I didn't like how blunt the curved pounts were, so i laid them out to mimic the pointy curve of my shop scissors and did some more grinding.

You seem to favor the blues for sure.

Have you considered perhaps a nice Wedgewood green?

(I gotta consider getting rid of this iPhone.)

Actually after a couple tests I doubt it will be blue at all.

Couldn't wait to test the tank with the nose on it even though it is raining.

Time to work on the tank tailpiece next.

Was going to try the SteelStik for the tail, but Ive had this for over 10 years and it's no good now. Gonna make a home depot run.

I think I have found my color. It was by accident too. I have been through the colors at both Home Depot and Lowes and had a few options. Then walking farther in Lowes to get find some SteelStik, they had a separate display box with Rustoleum's new Farmhouse matte paints. Sitting right there was this cool matte finish Farmhouse Slate Blue. It is exactly the color I was looking for. So when I got home I sprayed the paint test fender even though it was drizzling and 8pm.

Update: Looks like I was in favor of the right blue after all. :D

43 pages and you ain't done yet? (me neither, but trying...)
Looks like wet primer. I like it.
I may not cater to the build off crowd but I know what crayons I like best.

Carl

I really like the new 'bull nosed' tank! The rounded look really works with the build.

Your matte blue / gray paint will be a great back drop to your chrome springs and black bars, and whatever you highlight colors you dream up.

PaiNt oN~!

You know page numbers don't have a one-to-one correspondence with build progress on my build threads. I always have too many pics. :D
Your builds are always crowd pleasers! Mainly because you don't keep your crayons between the lines, which is what the Build Offs are all about.

Glad you like the nosecap in the tank. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Hopefully I figure out the mounty for the pointy end just as well.

I've got a few ideas around complimentary colors for the slate blue. I'll test them out first.

Maybe I'll get Amazon to sponsor me? :D :D :D :D I can rename the build "PrimeTime" :D
