We have a tropical like system pushing in from the Atlantic, so today is 20 minutes of sunshine, 10 minutes of drizzling rain. Just enough to keep me moving the bike and tools back and forth in the courtyard.
Between rain, I have managed to drill and tap holes for the shifter. Don't worry, I plan to shove some rags into the seatube before I ride it at all.

I am happy with the alignment of the shifter. Gonna run to home depot to get some replacement screw clips for the tank halves.

Got the screw clips so that I could secure the rear of the tank between the halves. Everything is buttoned up on the tank now. Shifter and bell operate with no clearance issues.

Also, while I was at ACE hardware, I found caps for the moon discs. I remember now, that these are exactly what was on the set I had for SaltHammer. They just had Mooneyes stickers on them.

I like the small original shifter knob, but want something bigger and cooler.

Reference shot with the small knob, followed by some with the t handle B&M

Followed by shots with the regular car 8 ball knob I've for years from a yard sale as well.

I REALLY like the look and feel of the B&M, especially how unusual it is for a bicycle.
HOWEVER, I think the 8 ball car shifter knob may be a slightly better look overall.

Here are some pics of it with the chainguard mocked up
