I have high riser handlebars and a 24"/26" three-speed wheelset with a drum brake front wheel and Nexus rear hub. Those two criteria should qualify me for the muscle bike category. I'm not a fan of banana seats, don't have one in my inventory and I'm too cheap to buy a new one: so I believe I'll use a nice, cushy cruiser seat for my muscle bike build. Like Meatloaf sang, "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad." Just this week, I picked up the rattiest Worksman frame on the planet and I intend to keep it that way. For contrast, I'll add a bunch of chrome or shiny metal pieces.

I will try to find a fatter rear tire during the process. Right now I need to gather up some nice, shiny hardware.
 
That frame is ratty ! Wow! Any plans to throw some slag in that crack for support / integrity of the frame, SD?

I like your concept. A fatter 26" would be cool, looks like there's plenty of room in that rear triangle.

Funny you should ask, Lee. I just this minute, right before coming onto the site, wrote "fatter rear, skinnier front" on my shopping list. As for the frame, I'll keep it "as found" for now, and just trust the Worksman reputation.
 
Wow, it's been almost two months since I last posted. I did take some photos along the way, so here's a quick update (and please forgive any pics that may be out of sequence) :

I dug out a shiny chrome fork, which contrasts nicely with all that rust.

Added a 26" rear wheel with a three-speed Nexus hub-

I got very lucky and found the perfect chrome clamp to hold the drum brake arm firmly in place-

Found a shiny chrome Schwinn-style chainwheel and crank set-

And then I forgot to take pics of a bunch of steps, including, but not limited to: lights, chainguard, motorcycle bars (high-rise, per the rules,) and more.

I did make some changes. I got rid of the front and rear lights, which, while '60s and early '70s period correct, just cluttered things up to me. And, with all due respect to Meatloaf, I went from 2 outta three to 3 outta three, but I aint changin' the name. There's a reason for not changin' the name; the motorcycle riser bars ain't exactly ape hangers, and the new, long saddle ain't exactly a nanner. But I think it's pretty dang muscley! Here are some shots; this week I'll take the bike into town for some final pics.

I love this bike: It has it all; super ratty frame, vintage truss rods, super cool GT piston-style neck, nice shiny touches, three speeds, and a motorcycle saddle and bars. Two outta three ain't bad.
Side note: It sure has a minibike vibe to it. I do believe I'll add a motor to it. Then I'll probably sell it. At last count, I had 25 bikes lying around!
 
I really like this bike. The motorcycle bars and seat plus the frame and truss rods. It's got a really cool look about it. I love the idea of a mini bike motor in it too!

I have only sold one bicycle in my entire life. I know someday I will be faced with the prospect though, and the thought does not bring me comfort.
