#2 Son's Thrashed BMX

#2 son was way into bmx in his younger days. He's a married and responsible adult now, so he gave this thing to me. Last time he rode it, a reunion of sorts with his buddies from his bmx days, he crashed and broke his elbow! lol

What I know of this rig I had to Google.

Cult frame, fork, and hubs.
Subrosa Brand 25t Shred Sprocket.
FIT Handlebar clamp.
Haro integrated headset.
20" GSPORT birdcage wheels
Thermalite pedals.
Fitbikeco cranks.

After quick inspection, bike seems fairly hashed:

-bent rear wheel
-broken spoke on front wheel
-possible stripped crank(s)

I'm not quite sure what to do with it. It's way too small for me to enjoy, and BMX is not my bag. Seems a shame to part it out or trash it.

Tear into it and fix it to sell, or part it out?

It was a good bike with some nice pieces. Definitely not garbage, but it's going to be expensive to get the same quality parts, and it would then be a tough sale trying to get that investment back. That's my unprofessional assessment.

The new school BMX market is a bit strange. Your typical buyer is going to be a young kid whose parents don't have deep pockets or an older guy trying to see what all the hub bub is about without spending a bunch of money. I'd try to true up the rear, replace the spoke, and fix or replace the cranks. You're not likely to get any real return on investment...so, they key is to invest as little as possible .

In 20 years it may be worth something, but...these last couple generations aren't much into nostalgia...they could change, maybe.

Wheels and cranks are very good. As you've seen BMX are always beating up wheels. Wheels and cranks would sell separately, locally or on eBay, vitalbmx.
Would sell the frame and remaining locally, shipping is an issue.

Try to identify frame model, if it full chromoly it will be worth more. Buyers will also want to know exact top tube length, center of head tube, center of seat tube.

I build a lot of BMX, buy completes, ride a while, mix / match parts. Between myself, 2 daughters and some nephews, lot of BMX hanging around.

You can try to sell complete. Most BMX'r get a decent complete, then either build it up as things break (similar to the bike you have) or next step is to get a high end frame and swap parts over and upgrade. Market for reselling completes is not great.
