26" 3-Bar Looptail Frames

These frames are sweet; I can confirm that they take a 1" seatpost and a road/"mini"-spec (30mm at insertion) headset...

Can you say more about the headset? I assumed that I can use a traditional Tioga Bear trap, am I wrong?

Beartrap is too big; the origin8 one will fit. I suspect that the frame was probably made for 30.0 JIS-spec headsets, but the 30.2 ISO cups will fit if you're persistent.

Mine is soaking in vinegar right now. I wanted to make sure the inside of the tubes were treated too. I still haven't decided for certain between chrome or gloss black. There's a big difference in price but I'm hoping to do the chrome. Gonna shave the chain guard tabs off.

I'm planning to order the headset and seatpost tonight, likely tires and chainring too.

I have some old skool cromo forks too. I'm not sure who made them.

BTW, 36 years of surface rust is gone from my frame. Some vinegar and steel mesh did the trick. I think these things were teal at one time. Now it's just straight raw metal.

I just got pictures from my powdercoater, he sandblasted my frame this morning. He also ground off the chain guard mounting tabs and filled the small holes in the headtube where the headbadge was riveted on. Here's a few pics:

I got a few options; probably going to run a set of tapered KHS bmx cruiser forks i got from @chattymatty a while back....

Seems like everyone is out of 1" threaded 26" Landing Gears. Except me; Ha. But if you want a new, chrome, 4130, available-right-now option, you could get the Red Menace forks from Atomic Cycles; and you'd be supporting RRB Member @rev106 's business...

Okay, so all my parts have been acquired:

Black Redline Device cranks
Anodized red Bear Trap pedals
Older anodized red Profile 46t chainring
Anodized red Sturmey Archer kickback hub w/matching front hub
Black MTX33 rims, black spokes, anodized red nipples
Red & black mushroom grips (though I have some cobra style red ones that I might use)
Black vintage style cruiser bars
The red anodized headset that was linked to me here
Anodized red seat post
Black sprung Brooks
Tan wall black snakebelly tires
A reproduction red (anodized looking paint) Mongoose double clamp (I have a vintage Murray double clamp that I could use).

Now all that's left is to decide between chrome and black gloss for the frame. Cost will play a factor. My wife is losing her patience with this build.

I really want to go chrome. I grew up riding a chrome DG with all red and blue anodize components with red snakebellys. It was stolen multiple times. One of the guys who stole it once was a guy, I won't use his name, who, at least at one time, owned at least one arena football team, among other businesses. Eventually, my dad got frustrated with all the parts getting clipped off of it even when it was locked up so he got rid of it and gave me a Nishiki mountain bike.

I'm doing this build with that DG in mind.


I can't wait to see everyone's finished bikes!

BTW, the dropouts on these frames are massive. One of the guys who bought one is planning to put 29" wheels on his.
