Hey all, I have a delta style 3-wheeled recumbent (with the single drive wheel in front, opposite of a tadpole recumbent) and I'm looking to build a three-speed wheel for it. It currently has a single cog, coaster brake setup. The issues I'm running into is my ankle passes close by the axle during pedaling so I can't use a traditional 3-speed as there's no room for the gear changing chain and any extra axle length. Also, there's no place to mount a disc or V-brake so it needs to be coaster or drum. I do have a Bendix kick-back 2-speed that I was thinking of building but I'd like to get at least 3-speeds and I'm thinking of using the hub in a different project. So far the best I can find that suits my needs is the SRAM I-Motion 3-speed. It's coaster brake and the cable is routed much like a drum brake, inside the chain stay. The real problem with it is that 'it's also has 130mm spacing so I'll need to widen the frame to make it fit. Is there any hub that I don't know about that would suit all my needs? thanks!

While not a 3 speed, the Nexus 7 has a similar cable attachment as the SRAM hub. It would give you even more gears and a used one would be cheaper than the i-Motion unit. Also, since they are a fairly common hub, servicing it would be easier too.

PM member ind-chuckz, he has some Nexus 7 shifters for sale http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70123&p=687659&hilit=nexus+7#p687659, maybe he has some hubs on stock too.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Dr. T
