36" wheel and tire came from the Unicycle crowd... That's how they get a high gear.

This one is for sale at a bike repair shack on the Lake Michigan bike path.

Check out this 36er. There is only an inch or two between the front and rear tire.

That's the one I commented on earlier. 2 things, 1) when watching the video you can see the fork/frame flex and on bumps the tires would hit together, which would cause braking... possibly breaking too. 2) what's the chance that that guy actually has a 38"-40" inseam? haha

I would like a 36" wheeled bike with the same frame geometry as a normal bike. I'm big enough to pull it off. Where is a tall person to find an extra large cruiser?

One of the best 36ers from MTBR made by a guy named Keener from Tucson I believe from about 6 years ago, double front disc brakes. That or the Blacksheep titanium with truss fork

Go pick up a Onyx 29er from Wally world for $100.

Looks like there is a big obstacle for 36" mountain bikes, from all the photos I've seen on Coker, there isn't a decent off-road tread for these big tires. Even the one they say is good for off-road use isn't something I'd want on my MTB.

I've been wanting a set of Coker's 36" wheels for a long time. I love the idea of a burrito with those huge wheels. The frame would be in between the tires, with no one part going higher than the top of the tires! I love the idea. I even wrote Coker, and they said they would sell me a wheel set for $350 (I told them I had one of their Monster Cruiser frames, but nothing else for it). Someday I'll have the dough, and I'll pick a set up.

someone here made one close to that. do a search for something like "overcompensator". i've been wanting to try it too, but i don't know if i'd ever come up with the cash for it.

edit: nevermind, it's the same one skipton posted. i thought i remembered it sitting lower.

Look at the photo again, it's pretty low, it is being held up by it's pedal... or did you mean the seat?

I really think 29ers are about as big as we'll see on production mountain bikes. There is a tradeoff to larger tires. I have a Fisher HiFi 29er full suspension and I certainly get the benefits, but I think starting/stopping, handling, etc aren't as good as my previous 26er Trance X1. I mean you really have to ride the bikes differently. On my 29er, I had to focus more on being smooth, carrying speed, etc but a little less on picking lines.

I think the disadvantages of anything larger than 29 will outweigh the benefits of your average mountain biker...unless your thing is climbing steps I suppose.

Haha!

'Where does a big guy get a cruiser?'; how about a GT (or KK) stretch cruiser with 29s or even the 36's?
Ive looked at, and sat the Monster but dont like the frame lines, if it was more traditional looking Id probably have bought it.
