OK, I know by now we've all seen the Coker 36" monster cruiser and their unicycles, we've seen at least once monster cruiser custom on this site, and another of our own built a tall bike around one of these wheels.

It's a fad right... just a big ole wheel to get attention right... right...?

Not functional... right?

How about this 36" tire MTB style bike climbing steps!

Well I know there has been bigger, look at the old high wheelers. Although I wouldn't try the stairs on one.

This was my thought, 36"s then maybe a jump to 40", then 44", then 48", then 52", now lets put a tiny wheel on the back... reverse bicycle evolution.

I don't think it's a fad at all. 29'ers are, and will continue to become more and more popular.

650c wheels/tires for road bikes are practically extinct (for good reason) and 700c is the de-facto standard now, but it could be argued that the 700c is even too small for bike frames larger than a 56cm size.

IMHO, there needs to be an additional, larger diameter road wheel size, 750c? 800c?

I don't think 29ers are a fad, I've got a rigid 29er and I love it, smoother than my old full suspension, lighter, and less complexity, I just think anything larger is getting out of hand, like the 36er in the video. As for larger road wheels, 900c spinners.

It looks cartoonish to me, like a six year old on a 29'er..

Yes, or like 28" wheels on a Crown Vic.

Pause the video at 23 seconds and check out the disk brakes, they are tiny! That wheel has to be exerting so much force on that disk that I can see overheating, fade, and failure easily. People forget that with a bigger diameter they need to address things like brakes, hubs, bearings, axles, not just longer spokes.

I think it'd be sweet to build a 4 wheeled fully independent suspension recumbent bike with 36" wheels and 4 wheel drive.

Some time back ago I spotted a young kid on her first 26" bicycle. She was barely tall enough to ride it. It reminded me of when I was about that age and size, and had my first full sized bike. I remember it seemed huge, unwieldy, and scary fast. I was thinking how cool it would be to have a bicycle big enough to deliver that sensation again. I hadn't seen the 36" Coker yet. I'm not about to risk my neck mountain biking anymore, but I still love the idea of a big wheel bike- maybe even 48", with a frame slung low beneath the axles. It'd be a novelty ride, like the chopper bikes, or those stand-up nordic track things, but I'll bet it'd be all kinds of fun, too.

Kinda like that but pedal powered. Like a big off road bicycle.

OK, I'll remove the engine and wheels from one of my 4 wheelers and sell it to you, you add bike wheels and a crank.

36"s... where will it end?

I've been wanting a set of Coker's 36" wheels for a long time. I love the idea of a burrito with those huge wheels. The frame would be in between the tires, with no one part going higher than the top of the tires! I love the idea. I even wrote Coker, and they said they would sell me a wheel set for $350 (I told them I had one of their Monster Cruiser frames, but nothing else for it). Someday I'll have the dough, and I'll pick a set up.

That'd be too heavy, Besides shipping would kill me. I got a welder and will be starting to experiment this summer with different bike parts. Granted it won't be a 36" but I'll probably do something 26". Probably 3 wheel to start with.

I love my "29ers", but about as Large as I wanna' go...besides the easier rollin' over my 26inchers, I like the low bottom bracket center of gravity feel also...i'm sure 29ers are here to stay.....!!!

I love mine too, if you watch the video that tall wheel looks a little twitchy in steering.
