picked up this '47 cwc western flyer from udallcustombikes now the build begins slowly but surely. Plans are to either clean up the frame then clear coat or just clear coat. Then upgrade with a modern day drivetrain and sealed bearing in anything that rotates. Since it is a slow project i already have a heavy plan that i'm keeping hush hush til i get more parts. so be ....... patient.

the starting point

the first purchase '47 hawthorne half moon bars.

i roughed up the chrome with 220grit installed some handlebar wrap material grips, and finished it off with some laser etched ROOTBEER mug end caps.

New KORE hoochie 36h sealed cartridge bmx flip flop hub. Spins like butter and now I can run a super weight saving micro gear set.

Since I'm waiting for parts I had a buddy at work make me these for between the bars. Adding a bit of rust to them to try and match the bike a bit more.

Teaser pic of the front end. Ladies western flyer middle weight fork. Not using the front wheel, I've got something very special in the works for that.

Some people might not like the direction I'm going with this bike but I don't really care. Its my interpretation of a rat rod. On that note my cranks came in the maill.

One of the great things about this site, no definition of a rat rod, people are respectful and really don't criticize peoples work.

I like the parts you are collecting and I will be following this build.

Finally got around to bobing the rear fender and roughing up the chrome with 220grit. Rounded off the edge to match the contours of the frame.

Fender looks great..... Sealed Bottom Bracket is cool... Interested to see what you are doing for wheels.

Rings are on there way. I really wish I could say but I would much rather tease then unveil. Tires I have something set but i really wish i could find a 26x1.95 with a red stripe instead of a full red side wall.
