[Bike from the Dead]

I love all the 70s tones and graphics that are back in style, but not for this one. Going full traditional- in the rat rod sense, of course.

All well and good. Just wanted to throw the idea out there. I think your bike will turn out great the way you have in mind.

People do it, but it’s a long bumpy ride! We run a modern (2007) three seat prerunner buggy. 3rd in class and 30th overall out of 260 entries. Trying to get it together and start a vintage truck project to run down there someday.

This is the car we run. Built by Jerry Penhall. yep, brother of Bruce from CHiPs and Speedway racing. It is a slightly longer, heavier version (4 seats) of a Class 1 unlimited buggy with a GM LS engine that makes less HP than the true competitors. This car is more for fun. NORRA is the only racing we do with it.

I swear I’m going to do some bike stuff today!

I spent many Friday nights at the OC Fairgrounds and saw Penhall race, so smooth.

Sam Ermolenko from Cypress managed a World Title in 1993 as well.

Wondering if Dave Mustaine still sponsors riders?

Big day today! Finally started cleaning up all the bare metal. As I mentioned before, this frame and tank have been to hell and back. Tons of pitting and other battle scars. But I like the look of it. Perfect bare metal would just look like a brand new bike, right?

I started by wet sanding the frame with 220. Tedious and time consuming but it started looking better with every pass. Inspector Scout was not impressed.

The next step was to use scotch brite and WD40 and “polish” until my fingers go num. then you’re about halfway there.

I tried to get a close up of all the pitting that remains.

This fender is the other half of one I used in a build off on a Shelby a few years ago. “The twelve year project” (5th place). It got the same wet sand and scotch brite treatment.

the locking strut fork was next on the list.

Scout says things are improving.

The tank is in rough shape, but like I said, I kind of like the look of it.

The final item of the day is this chain guard. I like it, but I’ll need to find mounts and I feel like it needs some modification.

Headed out of town again but when I get back I can start revealing parts and bolting them on. And the WD40 should keep it all from rusting while I’m gone.

Great update on a TON of work! Your hands are definitely younger than mine.

You really got that thing looking old, and shiny, at the same time. I like the pitting and the few dents and the overall 'aged but well preserved' look of this vintage ride!

Okay, now that's a look right there! I can already see what you're going for here, and I like it! I don't remember seeing you say anything about paint. Are you painting it, leaving it bare metal, or do you have something else in mind?

Definitely bare metal. Little color on the wheels, but that will probably be it.

Given that he preferred riding a humble mule into town over riding a horse, I'd wager He'd ride whatever kind of cheap, affordable, no-frills bike the guys over at The C.A.B.E. would openly mock. Maybe a pre-owned department store Huffy. Either that, or He'd just walk.

I think his dad was a carpenter at least.

Yes his dad was a carpenter. History tells us that He didn’t begin his ministry until about 30 yrs old. So I’d say it’s safe to say that between ages 12-29, he spent lots of time in the wood shop.
But there’s also no evidence that He ever used any carpentry skills so yea, I’d go with donkey.
